Frank J. Perrine, age 77, died Thursday, September 3 at Lakewood Regional Hospital after a long battle with heart disease and diabetes. Frank is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ila Rae, three children: Paula Myles (Steve), Shawna Stevens (Paul), and Jim Perrine, and one brother, Francis Perrine of Albuquerque. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Another grand-daughter preceded him in death. Frank faithfully served our great country as a veteran of both the Navy (active) and Air Force (reserves). The discipline, love of country, and appreciation for all things aviation gained during his military service were evident throughout his life. Frank was born in Morgantown, West Virginia where he lived until his Navy service brought him to Long Beach. Frank worked for Douglas Aircraft Co./McDonnell Douglas/Boeing for 45 years, retiring in 2011 as a Service Change Engineer. Frank met Ila Rae while working at Douglas Aircraft Co.; they married in 1969 and made their home in Cerritos for 46 years. Frank fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning his own business when he and Ila Rae opened Zip'z Ice Cream Pleasures in La Palma in 1977. Frank was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a loving, gentle man with a distinctive brand of humor and a unique laugh. All those who were fortunate to have known him, benefited from his quiet wisdom. Funeral services will be Friday, September 11 at 11:00 AM.
