Stephen Necze Vecsey

Father Stephen Necze Vecsey 1926-2009 Father Stephen Necze Vecsey, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles died on Monday, March 9, 2009 after a brief illness. He was 82. Born Istvan Necze in 1926, in Teglas, Czechoslovakia, Father Vecsey escaped from Communist Russia in 1947 to Hungary where he e arned a doctorate in Russian Language and Literature. He then escaped from Communist Hungary in 1957 and came to the United States. He entered St. John's Seminary, Camarillo in 1969 and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1973 at the age of 47. Father Vecsey served as Associate Pastor of St. Finbar, Burbank; Holy Trinity, Los Angeles; St. Peter Claver, Simi Valley; St. Gregory the Great, Whittier; and Holy Innocents, Long Beach until he retired in 1993. He is survived by his sister a nd niece, both in Hungary. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 11 am at St. Pancratius Catholic Church, 3519 St. Pancratius Place, Lakewood, CA 90712.
