Philip Jones Obituary

Philip Gordon Jones, 60, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Monday, September 29, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born October 15, 1953 in Las Cruces, NM to Earl Franklin and Mary Alice Hignett Jones. Phil enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, playing his guitar,singing and just being in "the pines". He also enjoyed country/western dancing and was known to some as the dancing king. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree after he graduated from high school on a full baseball scholarship. He then taught school in Reserve NM for 4 years. He was hired at Phelps Dodge in 1980 where he started his career as a boilermaker and finished as a Reliability Engineer for Freeport McMoran in Morenci. He was very loyal to his family and job and he didn't know the meaning of can't; any project that was given to him he would accomplish. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Cheryl H. Jones of the family home; one son, Brandon L. Jones of Albuquerque; one daughter, Courtney B. Berry of Silver City; two grandchildren, Tyler Jones and Kaylie Berry; two brothers, Steve Jones and companion Betty of Las Cruces; Richard Jones (Laura) of T or C; one niece, Amanda Frost (Loren); one nephew, Andrew Jones; in-laws, Pat and Edna Feeley; extended family, TJ and Katrina Breaux; numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Graveside Service will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4 at 11am at Gila Mesa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Farran, Kenny Nemo, David Barraza, Joe Rodriguez, Aaron and Jacob Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve, Richard, Brandon and Andrew Jones and Dave Ritenger Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels "Trusted care for the ones you love" ~ 575-537-0777. Mr. Jones - my friend, over the 6 years we worked together we became good friends, I learned a lot from Phil and always looked to him for advice both professional and in personal. Phil was a passionate person, he cared very much for his family and his beloved Cheryl.. he will be missed dearly. to his family you all are in our thoughts and prayers, from all at Morenci FMI

I knew Mr. Jones while he taught at Reserve High. He was overseeing study hall one year and helped 5 of us understand and pass Algebra 1. He will be missed....

I would like the family and friends to know I feel your lose and pain. I lost my sister Patty to cancer also. I knew Phil for 40 years. I worked with him for 7 years at Metal Craft. He was married to my cousin Lori at one time. He was a good friend of mine and my family. He will be missed. Please stay strong and it will get better.
