Shirley Wofford-Sheriff Obituary

Services for Shirley Fay (McGilvray) Wofford-Sheriff, 86, of El Paso, Texas, are scheduled for Monday, February 12, 2018 at 3:00 PM at The Sanctuary Downtown in Denver, Colorado. Burial will be Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 9:00 AM at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sheriff was born December 19, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Her family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico when she was in high school where she married Clyde Wofford. After Mr. Wofford's death at White Sands Proving Grounds, she married Jack Sheriff. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1959 where they resided until moving to El Paso in 1975. With the decline of Mr. Sheriff's health due to Alzheimer's, they moved to Denver, Colorado until his death. As Alzheimer's consumed Mrs. Sheriff, she moved to Tyler, Texas where she passed four years later on February 4, 2018.

She is preceded in death by father, Wirt Tyre McGilvray; mother, Roberta Sue Grantham; brother, Wirt Tyre McGilvray, Jr.; husband, Clyde F. Wofford; husband, Jack Sheriff; and two sons-in-law, Duane Greer and Joe Clark.

Survivors include sister, Marilyn Sue Hopkins and husband Ronald; daughters, Susan Ann Vest and husband Bob, Shirley Marie Greer Sheriff and husband Marvin, Jacki Lynn Sheriff Clark; grandchildren, Susan Lynnette Stivers, Melody Ann West, Allyn Duane Greer, Stephanie Marie Greer, David Jackson Greer, Stonewall Jackson Clark, Oliver Winston Clark; great grandchildren, Abigail Emma Stivers, Hope Elizabeth Stivers, Noelle Grace Stivers, Braelyn Hope Greer, Axyl Knox Greer; nephews and nieces, Gary and Betty Hopkins, Sherolyn Hopkins, Charla and Rob Hopkins Channell; 10 great nephews and nieces; nephew, Bill Sheriff and wife Sharon, along with nieces and nephews of the Sheriff families. She is also survived by many friends, piano students, Bible students, neighbors and her beloved dog, Teacup.

The family would like to thank those wonderful ladies who were her friends, caregivers and nurses. Each of them is appreciated and loved by our family. They made this difficult time over the past few years brighter for our mother, especially Latoya, Pat, Tina and Syphronia. Our mother also had friendships in years gone by that she truly cherished and missed terribly. They added so much joy to her life, and for that we are grateful.
