John V. Michels, 71, of Superior, WI, and formerly of Eau Claire, WI, passed away on February 5 at Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN.
John was born in Eau Claire on November 22, 1952, the son of Charles and Lorraine (Carey) Michels. He graduated from Eau Claire North High School with the class of 1971.
John and Sharon Lowe were united in marriage on July 12, 1980, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and they celebrated 43 years of marriage.
John worked at UW-Eau Claire for over 30 years before retiring from his position as a custodian.
He was an avid sports fan, his favorite team being the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed watching the Bucks and the Brewers. John liked to travel, especially to big cities to see the skyline. He loved Jesus and would often share that love through telling others about Him and praying for them. He also left gospel tracts all over the city of Superior and replaced them when he saw that they were gone. His favorite Bible verse was John 1:12, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:".
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Patricia (Gerald) Stelzer and Catherine (Douglas) Grant.
John is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Thomas (Alicia) Michels of Superior; grandchildren, Ashton, Gracie, and Garrett; siblings, William (Ruth) Michels of Eau Claire, Edward (Jeanne) Michels of Eau Claire, Susan Manor of Eau Claire, and Mary (Mark) Heintz of Bruce, WI; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Barrett.
Services will be held in Eau Claire this Spring, dates and times will be announced.
