Mary Florence Mathews March 24, 1927- March 31, 2007 PHENIX CITY, AL— Mary Florence Mathews, 80, of Phenix City, Ala., died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with Reverend Emory Evans officiating. Active pallbearers will be Wesley Yawn, Milford Burkhalter, Jimmy Dickerson, Jimmy Carden, Gary Bramlett and David Woodham. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Mathews was born in Columbus, Ga., on March 24, 1927, daughter of the late Frank McKenzie and Mattie Bell Barfield McKenzie. She was a lifelong area resident and was Baptist by faith. Survivors include her husband, William H. Mathews, Jr. of Phenix City, Ala.; her five children, Gene Knox and his wife Janice of Phenix City, Bobby Knox and his wife Carolyn of Phenix City, Linda McCarty and her husband Bobby of Smiths Station, Ala., Pam Gouge and her husband Mack of Columbus, and Jackie Oser and her husband Kevin of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
