"Jotie" Judith Layne Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2014.
Judy Layne, affectionately known to her family and friends as Jotie, died September 8, 2014. She was born December 31, 1936 in Richmond, VA. At the age of five, she, her sister and brother went to live at the Masonic Home of VA. After graduating from Highland Springs High School, she met her husband, Gene Layne and they were married on April 27, 1957. When their son was born, Judy stayed home to care for him until he went to high school. Judy went to work in retail and enjoyed her customers. Gene decided to move to Williamsburg in 2000 so that Judy could be with her sister, Anne. They were very close and did many fun things together.
She is survived by her husband, Gene; son, Gene Jr., and his wife Stacy Layne; granddaughters, Candie and Amanda; sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Warren Harrell; niece, Deborah and her husband, Tim Schocklin; great nieces, LeeAnne and Katelyn Schocklin; and her beloved cat, Shadow.
Funeral service will be private. Please support the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.

Please accept our deepest sympathies. A trip to the drug store without seeing and hearing Jotie will be much less. Her sweet disposition will be remembered by all who met her. May the Lord be with you and continue to remind you of the years filled with pleasant memories.

Gene and family,

Phyllis Luther and I want you and your family to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers in this time of sorrow. We both worked with Judy and always loved being in her company because she was such a joy to be around. She will be truly missed but we will always have our wonderful memories.
