Agnes Fisher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2017.
Agnes Cunningham Fisher, a first generation American, was born in 1929 in Oakland, California to Hannah and Patrick Cunningham, Irish immigrants, as the youngest of ten children. She graduated from St. Elizabeth's High School and worked for many years at Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation.
She had a love for travel that included trips to Europe on two different occasions and was a season ticket holder with the San Francisco 49er's during the 1950's. She was a regular socialite and had many friends during her youth. After her marriage in 1966 to Norman L. Fisher, Jr., she, her husband, and four children lived in California and Virginia before moving to Amarillo, in 1979. Norman died in 1989. In Texas she was employed by Affiliated Mercantile, St. Anthony's Hospital, Catholic Family Service, and TPMHMR's Early Childhood Intervention. She raised three sons and a daughter during that time. She continued to work part-time well into her eighties and up until a few months before she passed and was as quick and sharp as ever. Agnes was a beloved mother and grandmother, an avid coffee drinker, a fantastic cook, a ferocious reader of mystery novels, and an expert at the daily newspaper crossword puzzle. She had a sarcastic wit and an original sense of humor. Her smile was bright, her love for her family and friends deep and wide. She passed away peacefully in Austin, TX on April 8, 2017, surrounded by several members of her family gathered at her bedside. She was 87 years old. It has been said that she was "young at heart and never old" and was the final one to pass out of her nine other siblings, the last member of a generation. She will be remembered for her resoluteness and fortitude, her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as her friendship and kindness toward all that she encountered. She blessed many during her lifetime, and we can all only hope to carry her enduring legacy of love into the future with but an ounce of her immense strength and influence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church 4122 S. Bonham St., Amarillo, TX 79110 or online at https://stjosephamarillo.com/giving

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman L. Fisher Jr; her parents Patrick and Hannah Cunningham; brothers; David, Leonard, Patrick John, Joseph, and Eugene Cunningham; sisters Rose Moore, S. Ellen Marry Cunningham O.P., Margaret Brownell, Ann Mahoney.

She is survived by three sons and one stepson, Daniel and wife Melody, Patrick, Michael and wife Angela, Norman L. Fisher III and wife Marlis one daughter Hannah Pataky and husband Craig, seven grandchildren Benjamin and wife Teagan, Jacqueline, Noah, Andrew, Garrett, Grayson, and Brady, one great-grandchild Taylor, one step-grandson Norman Fisher IV and wife Lisa, one step-granddaughter Katrina Fisher and fiancé Tim and one step-great-grandson Caleb.

I recently found out of Agnes' passing thru a fellow ECI staff person. I remember when she came to work at ECI. She was a great friend and yes -young at heart. My thoughts are with all of her family.

I cherish the time I got to know and work with Agnes. She was a precious, precious woman and an amazing one. She was one year younger than my mom and I was always in wonder of how she continued to work and carry on. All at work could count on her to be the voice of reason when things got tough. She is greatly missed.
