Alan C. Campbell

Alan Carlyle Campbell, 92, passed away peacefully in his home in Parksville, BC on October 7, 2013. He was born September 15, 1921 in Osgood, SK. In 1938 he "road the rails" to Vancouver, and went to work in the Blubber Bay lime mine. After serving in the Harbor Defense during WWII, he settled in Vancouver and started a family, working as a Lions Gate Bridge toll collector for ten years. In 1954 Al started his career in the airline industry as a counter agent with Queen Charlotte Airlines. In 1955 QCA sent him to work on the DEW Line, and later to Edmonton -when QCA was acquired by Pacific Western Airlines. He held various positions in Edmonton, Vancouver and Yellowknife. He retired as a Vice President with PWA in 1986. In early retirement he remained close to the people and industry he loved, working as a Commissionaire in the Calgary airport RCMP Detachment. Al's love for "the coast" carried him back to Vancouver Island at the age of eighty. In Parksville he maintained a full and healthy life until his death. He was known by many for his love of birds and dogs (as well as his rescues of both).

"Grampa Al's" quick wit, and sparkling eyes will be sadly missed. He is survived by his daughter Caroll (Read) Archibald; grandchildren Kelly (Mark) Fankhauser, Justin (Valerie) Archibald and Tyler Archibald; great-grandchildren Jakob and London Fankhauser and Helena and Marin Archibald, all of Salt Lake City, Utah. His request was for cremation and no funeral. A family memorial is planned.
