I learned of Scott's passing through the MCV alumni magazine tonight--what sad news. He was junior faculty when I was in the MCV pathology residency in the 80's and we residents all loved him. He was so smart, funny, and approachable. I moved across the country right after residency, but have never forgotten him and I tell my residents about him. He'll always be a young, energetic, wonderful person in my memories. My sincere condolences to his family.

My sincere sympathies to Julie and the boys. I am sorry I will be away and cannot come to the memorial service. No one told or generated more stories, and I will always be able to hear his voice.

My heart is broken after hearing of the loss of such a tremendous person. I consider myself lucky to have been able to work with him for several years until his retirement from VCU. I can say without a doubt, that he was an integral part of shaping who I was as a medical professional but also a person. He always demonstrated great care and concern for his patients, his colleagues, and his students. His colorful personality, love for life, and unique humor always made the worst of days seem a whole light brighter. He was incredibly selfless, often taking time out of his incredibly busy days to connect with his colleagues and share his stories of his fascinating life and his beautiful family. He was incredibly brilliant and I still use everyday so much of the knowledge that he passed along. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to know him and I wish peace for his family and friends as they cope with this loss.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. I worked with Scott at MCV in the pathology department and always admired his keen pathologic "eye", his extensive clinical knowledge and mission to care for the patient. I recall his master teaching skills, great humor, political commentary and Sunday excursions to Kroger where we would run into each other as he contemplated that night's dinner. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, who I feel like I know personally after listening to him speak of his wife and children almost daily. Scott, I will miss you greatly.
