It was just by chance that my husband and I met Alex and Gus in Kauai on the golf course 3 years ago and shared some good times during that trip. I was especially drawn to Alex because she was forthcoming about her illness but was determined to live life to the fullest. She was courageous, kind, interesting and warm. Sadly, I was never able to see her again, yet our relationship continued right to the end through e-mails. She remained grateful for every day she had with Gus, her children, and grandchildren. I will remember her with great fondness and hope to see Gus on the golf course again in Kauai when he is ready Our thoughts are with her family during this sad time.

I was so sad to hear about Alex. She was a shining star at Alberta Education. Even though we didn't keep in touch after she left to take a job at another Ministry, I remember running into her at some event and she was just as delightful and bubbly as always. She even remembered my name even though we never worked directly together so that just shows what a caring and thoughtful person she was. The world has lost another beautiful sole. Deepest sympathies to your whole family.

Gus it was an honor to have Alex as a friend. She has such a sense of humour - her stories about family, holidays, golfing, biking and her extraordinary volunteer work contribute to this wonderful much missed woman. Our most sincere condolences. John and Linda Stainton
