Alfred PETERS Obituary
Passed away peacefully April 6, 2014 at the age of 93 after a short illness. Born in Fraser Lake B.C., he was the second youngest and last surviving of 13 children born to Sherriff, Earnest Sturrock Peters and Betsy Roy. At Fort Fraser he met the love of his life, Galena Gerhardi and they were married November 13th 1940 for 68 happy years until Galena's death in February 2009. Al was a World War II vet, seeing duty in Europe with the Royal Canadian Army Corps. He was severely wounded in action but being an incredibly strong willed man, he returned to duty when he had recovered. Following the war, he and Galena moved to their home on Penticton Street in Vancouver, where the family shared many wonderful Sunday dinners, always with his favourite roast beef, mashed potatoes and cream corn. Al was a self-made businessman and after working at McDonnell Metal, Imperial Industries and Jackson Scaffolding, in 1970 he started his own business, Arpel Industries Ltd. Soon after with son Rick in 1972, also started Arpel Security Systems Ltd. Al was a wonderful and loving father and will be deeply missed by his daughter Shirley Graham (John); son Rick (Julie), and Grandchildren, Robert (Cathy), Louise (Brennan), Stephen and Jennifer. Great-grandchildren Madeline, Abby, Wesley and Nicole. Many thanks to Dr. Rauh, the staff at Burnaby General Hospital and the Department of Veteran Affairs who provided wonderful support in his later years. Al will always be thought of for his kindness, charm, wit and generosity. He will be sadly missed and remembered privately by the family.

My condolences to all of the family. I remember Mr. Peters as a kind, friendly, honest man while I worked for him at Arpel. Again my prayers and thoughts for the family. Kelly Wicks
