PIQUA — Archie E. Minor, 82, of Piqua, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at 2:35 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Dayton VA Hospice Unit. He was born Jan. 6, 1936, in Tyler County, West Virginia, to the late Fountain and Lucille (Starcher) Minor. He married Faye M. Crawford April 20, 1955, in Middlebourne, West Virginia, and she preceded him in death Sept. 14, 2017.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila (Roger) Nelson of Piqua; a son, Scott "Ed" (Sharon) Minor of Piqua; a brother, Kenneth (Jean) Minor of Bay Town, Texas; four grandchildren, Renee (Dustin) Nelson-Wachter, Brian Nelson, Teresa Rose (Josh) Holleran, Jeffrey Benbow; four step-grandchildren, Hollie, Crystal, Benita, Kathryn; nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin Cromes, Mickayla Nelson, Aiden Nelson, Cole Nelson, Avery Nelson, Alexis (Nick) Holleran, Megan Holleran, Dylan Thompson, Kayleigh Benbow; 13 step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dixie Lemaster.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Minor; and three brothers, Ralph, Eugene, and Lee.
Mr. Minor was a 1954 graduate of Tyler County High School in West Virginia. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during Vietnam and Korea, working as a computer specialist before retiring in 1976 after 21 years of dedicated service. He then worked for Hobart Bros. as an inspector. He also worked for many years as a post office clerk in Vandalia, from which he retired; a job he truly enjoyed.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #184 and a former member of the Benevolent and protective Order of Elks. He enjoyed reading, watching sports and listening to bluegrass gospel music. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. Shane Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
