 SWANSON It is with sorrow that the family of Dr. Arnold L. Swanson announces his passing on his 89th birthday, September 29th, 2007. He passed peacefully in the night. Arnold was born in Red Deer, and took his education in Vancouver and McGill University. Dad married Joan Hawkins in 1943, and graduated the same year from medicine (mom graduated in Nursing). He took post graduate work in Psychiatry at Essondale, BC. Dad had a long career in hospital administration highlighted by being the first Executive Director of the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon from 1954 - 1965 as well as being named the first Canadian President of the American College of Hospital Administrators. His career also took him to London, Toronto, and finally Ottawa, where he was the Executive Director of the Canadian Council on Hospital Accreditation. Arnold was also an active Rotarian for over 50 years. Our parents retired to White Rock, BC in 1982, moving to Calgary in 1991. Arnold was predeceased by his wife, Joan, and his son, Stuart. He leaves behind 5 children and extended family: Karen (Gerry) Stevens, California, Wendy (Alex) Campbell, Calgary, Dave (Jan) London, Ontario, Eric (Alison), Edmonton and Patti (Steve) Cook, Waterloo.
