ROCKPORT - Barbara C. Woodward, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, surrounded by her loving family and caretakers at Anderson Inn, Camden. Born May 13, 1924, in Camden, she was the daughter of Frank P. and Mildred (Small) Colby. She was a 1942 graduate of Rockport High School and married Coleman G. Woodward, April 18, 1942. Mrs. Woodward was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper for the Graffam family in Rockport. She was a member of Rockport Methodist Church and in more recent years, a member of John Street United Methodist Church, Camden. Mrs. Woodward sang in the church choir and was an active member with the church suppers and food sales. Her fudge was so popular it was often sold out with advanced orders prior to the sale. Having worked with Frank Claes, a local photographer, Mrs. Woodward did hand coloring with oil paints before the advent of color photography. Mrs. Woodward will be remembered as a kind, loving and thoughtful wife, mother and grandmother. In 1987 Mr. and Mrs. Woodward built a new log home on Mount Pleasant Street, West Rockport. Surviving are her three children, Bruce C. Woodward and his wife, Jennifer, of Rockport, Eileen W. Adams and her husband, Lee, of New Vineyard and Jan W. Calderwood and her husband, Robert, of Rockport; five grandchildren, Andrew E. Woodward and his wife, Amy, of Franklin, Mass., Amy Taylor and her husband, Tom, Michael McKeen and his wife, Denise, all of Scarborough, Brent Meservey and his wife, Georgia, of Union and Ashley Meservey of Rockport; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Colby of Camden. She is also survived by her devoted friend, Carroll Watmaugh. She was predeceased by her husband, Coleman G. Woodward, Jan. 19, 2000; and her brother, Parker Colby. The Woodward family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the caregivers and employees at Quarry Hill for their loving and compassionate care. Also a special thanks to the hospice employees and volunteers for their support this past year. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Seaview Cemetery, Russell Avenue, Rockport. A reception will be held after the service at Rockport Opera House. Memorial donations may be made to Camden First Aid Association, P.O. Box 368, Camden, ME 04843 or to her favorite charity, the Bruce Woodward Scholarship Fund, care of Bill Lane, P.O.
