To the MArtin family
I am thinking of Barry again today
as a co worker of ours passed a day or so ago....Charlie Conroy - we all worked together at CKGM - "those were the days my friends"
No question Barry was "something else" with his boots and brow.
MEMORIES keep us connected.

I met Barry when we met at CKGM in the 60's -pinstriped pants, cowboy hat, boots and a booming laugh or bellow - he was one of a kind and I will never forget him -

Best wishes, Barry, on your journey home.

Barry,
When Tracy wrote me that you'd moved on I couldn't believe it; you always seemed so indestructible. That I'll never hear your great voice, hear you laugh, grumble and argue, wounds me
beyond description. I even miss your smoking. That you'll never stride down Greene Avenue and take your stool beside me in the Bistro and down a Kilkenny, is hard to believe.
Though I'm here in Thailand with a young family, I spare thoughts of you and the the things we shared and enjoyed, every day. In all my years I never found a finer friend; your word was your bond and I could trust you with my life. One of Montreal's great characters, it was an honour to have known you. The world is a lesser place without you. May God guard and protect you. And we'll meet again and share brewskies and Malts in Valhalla. Goodbye old friend.
Your pal always
Tony

I'll miss you Barry. I became a member of your family in 1976, when I decided to become a farmer and you gave me a job. I learned so much from you, and I owe a lot of my successes to what I learned in Trout River. I also learned the importance of the barley sandwich! We have talked or visited at least twice a year since then, and I will miss that. Judy, thank you for your call tonight, Judy, Craig, Tracy, Trent, and Kyla, I'm so sorry for your loss...

We always had a fun time with Barry and enjoyed his thirst for knowledge and amazing memory...and there's all the rest that you describe so well Kyla. We can hear him laughing at all these comments about himself. With our love and condolences to you all.

Barry and I shared many happy tennis moments as a doubles team in the 1960's. I have missed him and am sad to know we won't connect again to re-live great old days on and off the court. So long, "Team". My deepest sympathies to Judy and the children.

I have great souvenirs as a kid going over to the farm in Trout River spending time with Tracy and how Mr Martin was such a wonderfully spirited man. He always had his cowboy hat and boots and those impressive eyebrows! He is someone that you can never forget.
To Tracy, Kyla, Trent and Judy, my warmest condolences, with lots of love and hugs!

I remember Mr. Martin when I was growing up in Trout River as a man of stature and a real cowboy! When he talked you would listen and when he laughed...it was loud. :) The eyebrows and cowboy hat were his trademark to me as a kid...My sympathies to the family.

What a legend! thoughts go out to the extended Martin family. I remember being questioned by Barry when I was asked to teach Tracy riding "you mustn't be a very good rider cause you've come here to teach!!" A truly well lived life!

Barry and my dad were friends and neighbors. I remember fondly the animated conversations between Barry and my dad "Joe". There truly was never a dull moment when these two characters got together. They seemed to have something in common that caused others to stand by and wonder. Barry was good to my dad and our family, may he rest in peace.

Mr. Martin was a long time neighbour of ours when they lived in Trout River. He was an eccentric man, a real cowboy. Sad to hear the news of his passing. Sympathies to the family.

To the family of Barry - my sympathy to one and all.
I worked with Barry at CKGM-FM
last saw him "in his cowboy boots" in Westmount a few yrs ago.
He was definitely "one of a kind"
and it was fun knowing him "back in the day"

Bill Haughland said it all and so perfectly about Barry. Ray and I both worked with Barry - ever so many years ago - and he certainly was "one of a kind". Have a great time Barry - wherever you now be....Enjoy your morning coffees on your break!

What an obit! Fits Barry to a T. It evokes memories of times we all shared here in the Valley.
Our thoughts are with you all as you turn another page in the "Martin Book"

I always thought that Barry was born "out of his time." He should have appeared sometime back in the 1800's when "men were men" and cowboys ruled the west. He once showed me his "fast draw," from a holster he wore on the hip, and then proceeded to shoot several beer cans in the blink of an eye. We used to call Barry "The Brow," because of his generous eyebrows .. a nickname I think he kind of enjoyed. He and I, at one time, were going to co-write a book about the old west ... just one of those things we never got around to. Every time I drive into Montreal from Vermont I see grain-silos with the farmer's family name written across the top ... another of Barry's brilliant sales ideas. Wherever he is, now, he's still wearing his western boots and is probably sitting around a camp fire with a bunch of like minded souls.
Deepest condolences.
