Bill Malone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 14 to Jul. 14, 2008.
Bill Malone
Dec. 17, 1942 - June 13, 2008
Bill Malone died June 13, 2008, at home in Elko, Nev., in the loving care of his wife Doris and his family.
Bill was born December 17, 1942 to Viola and Duke Malone in Anaconda, Mont., grew up and attended local Catholic Schools in Anaconda. While in high school, he entered the Naval Reserve and subsequently enlisted in the Navy in January 1962, serving two years active duty and then being honorably discharged as a Reservist in 1966.
After his term of active duty, he married the love of his life and best friend Doris on Sept. 26, 1964, and settled down to begin their family in Anaconda. Bill always seemed to keep two jobs, his primary work as an electrician on the "Hill" and then a second job either working as a mechanic at the Anaconda Service Station or tending bar at "Skinny's," the Club Moderne. Bill and Doris raised their family in Anaconda until circumstances with the copper industry dictated they ultimately move to Elko, Nev., in 1987.
Bill started his career in Elko as an electrician in 1987 and retired from Newmont as energy manager in 2005. Along the way he forged lasting friendships with many of the people with whom he worked.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother Viola; her brothers and sisters; father Duke; father-in-law Lewis D. Lovell; sister-in-law Betty Lou Andrews; brother-in-law Tom Matosich; nephew Mark Andrews; niece Wendy (Schwartz) Boden; and great-nephew Nate Thomas Logan.
He is survived by his wife Doris of Elko, Nev.; three children and seven grandchildren - daughter Kathy (Tom) Battany and children Bill Cox, Veronica, and Eric, all of Golden, Colo.; son Bill (Chris) and children Haley and Danielle of Fargo, N.D., and daughter Sandy (Vik) Bell and children Caitlin and Kyle of Elko, Nev.; goddaughter Andrea (Marty) Logan and family; sister Toni (Brad) Schwartz and family of Loveland, Colo.; mother-in-law Helen Lovell of Anaconda, Mont.; aunt Pat McCabe; brother-in-law Tom (Carol) Lovell and family; brother-in-law Bob (Sally) Lovell and family; brother-in-law Ben (Linda) Lovell and family; sister-in-law Mariann Matosich and family; the family of sister-in-law Betty Lou Andrews; sister-in-law Jean (Dan) Reardon and family; sister-in-law Judy (Larry) Williams and family; sister-in-law Helen (Tim) McKeon and family; sister-in-law Connie (Ken) Vieth and family; and many cousins and friends and their respective families.
The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elko. Father Thomas will preside over the mass. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity.

I found a penny today
Just laying on the ground,
But it's not just a penny
This little coin I've found.

Found pennies come from heaven,
That's what I've been told,
By Angels watching over us
From their clouds of gold.

When Angel’s think of you
They will toss a penny down,
Sometimes just to cheer you up
To make a smile from your frown.

So don't pass by that penny
When you're feeling blue,
It will be a penny from heaven
That special Angels’ tossed to you.

On behalf of everyone at Sierra Pacific Power who had the opportunity to work with Bill Malone during the years he was associated with Newmont Gold, we would like to express our condolences on his passing. Bill played an important role in the development of the gold mining industry in Nevada. His contributions will be appreciated for many years to come by both the industry and by the many communities where mining is part of the fabric of daily life. Our thoughts are with Doris and the rest of the family. We wish you the best.
