Brenda Carlin Obituary
She was a lifelong a resident of Sulphur where she was a 1971 graduate of Sulphur High School. Brenda was the co-founder of Survivors United, Inc. and served as a key player in obtaining the registration and public notification of convicted sex offenders, now referred to as "Megan's Law". Under the appointment of two different governors, Brenda had served on the Interagency Council on the Prevention of Sex Offenses and Treatment of Sex Offenders from its inception in 1993. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren), and making and building things for family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Gayle Carlin of Sulphur; her children, Bridgette Navarre and husband, Ryan of Lake Charles, and Brent Dale Carlin and wife, Amanda of Sulphur; and her five grandchildren, Gage, Jaide, Blaide, and Juliana Navarre, and Bynton Carlin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Della Vincent.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Whitney Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.

Gayle, Bridgette, & Brent, my heart is so very sad in knowing you've lost this one of a kind, ever so fun loving, wonderful, classy lady who I've been so proud to call my friend. I recall her hard work and relentless efforts in getting Survivors United founded and continuing to press forward until Megan's Law was in effect. We've been friends for more years than I can recall and she will always be remembered by that infectious smile she sported. May she rest in peace in the arms of our Lord.

I remember reading a few lines of wisdom once that certainly applys to Brenda Carlin. You may not remember what a person said to you nor may not remember what they did, but you certainly will always remember how good they made you feel. This was always her way of showing her love.

I am going to miss you so much Brenda. It just does not seem the same, even today. I will always have Gayle, Bridgette, and Bent and their families in my prayers. So much love to all of your precious grandbabies. A light sure did go out when you left this world.
