Reverend Father Brendan SHIEL
Born 14.05.1924 at Kilkelly, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
Ordained 05.06.1949 at St Peter's Wexford, Ireland.
Born to Eternal life 26.03.2015 Brisbane, Queensland.
Much loved Parish Priest of St Bernadette's Parish, Carlton NSW for over 30 years.
Beloved son of Jane and Michael Shiel (both deceased). Last remaining member of 18 brothers and sisters. Dearly loved uncle of many nieces and nephews in Ireland.
Father Brendan came to Australia in 1953 from Ireland, to join his brother Father Peter Shiel, Parish Priest of St Ives, as a Priest of the Archdiocese of Sydney. We pay tribute to their dedicated ministry and to that of many Irish clergy and we celebrate their great contribution to our Australian Catholic story.
Our Lady of Knock, pray for him.
Pontifical Mass of Christian Burial for REVEREND FATHER BRENDAN SHIEL will be offered in St Bernadette's Church, Argyle Street, Carlton on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 commencing at 10.30am.
The funeral will leave the church at the conclusion of the Mass for Macquarie Park Cemetery, corner Delhi and Plassey Roads, North Ryde.

Fr. Shiel married us in St Bernadettes Church 29 years ago. He was a fellow country-man who was always keen to share a story of his days in Ireland. Blessed to have seen him in his retirement home in QLD. You will be always missed.

My Uncle Brendan was my father's last surviving sibling and I'm so pleased I was able to visit him in Carlton before his retirement. A wonderful man, may he rest in peace.

Fr. Brendan, a Priest with a heart of Gold. He practiced the teachings of Christ in his every day life and he loved to help the poor, the sick and the suffering. His motto was to soldier on with Christ. May your reward be Great in Heaven until we meet again!!!!
