Byron James Crews

Byron James Crews, 49, of Pelion, SC was born on August 11, 1973, in Charleston, SC to Evangeline Smith Crews and James Allen Crews. Byron was healed within the arms of Jesus on July 3rd of 2023 surrounded by family at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas after a long battle with cancer.

Byron was employed as a facility engineer supervisor at UPS in West Columbia, South Carolina. He is a graduate of Southern Polytech University and Georgia Tech where he published several articles and received multiple research grants. He valued education highly and his passion for his field of study showed significantly. Byron was a former assistant basketball coach and assistant track coach at Pelion High School. He worked diligently with numerous students to help them achieve their dream of college success. Byron was a member of Pelion Nazarene Church and attends yearly camp at Hortense Wesleyan Camp in Hortense Georgia.

In addition to his loving parents mentioned above, Byron is survived by his beautiful daughter Abigail Turner of Orlando Florida. His lifelong partner, Kimberly Broadway of Pelion SC, his sons Joseph (Brianna), Christopher and Aaron Crews of Pelion SC. His stepchildren of 16 years, Rutland (Lauren), Hudson (Brie) and Kensington Martin of South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister Erin (Duane) Salter of Lexington, SC and brother Ethan Crews of Hortense GA and countless extended family members and friends.

Byron's family was always held in high regard and he worked tirelessly to provide and care for those he loved. The impact he had on his family and community cannot be understated. He loved to repair vehicles and solve problems. Any puzzle or problem he came across was never too difficult. He was a Clemson University Tigers fan and loved shrimping with his Dad and brother. Byron will be missed dearly and his place in our hearts will never be filled.

A Service Celebrating Byron's life will be held at 6 pm on Monday, July 17, 2023 at the Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home 153 Main St S, Wagener, SC 29164. Visitation will follow the service. A private graveside service will be at Hortense Cemetery in Hortense, Georgia.

The family would like to thank MD Anderson Center ICU medical team, Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Houston Haven, A Shelter for Cancer Families, Project Joy and Hope, A Chance for Hope, Big Love Cancer Care, Hope Kids, Sanctuary Friends, Flathead Lake Lodge and the unmeasurable amount of friends/family that helped and prayed for Byron and our family through his cancer journey.
