STARR
John Byron Starr, 77, passed away Christmas Day 2013 surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Scott City, KS on 09/22/1936 to Frederick Starr and Grace Stormont Starr. He graduated from Scott City H.S. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Fort Hays State University, and thereafter taught junior high English in WaKeeney, KS and Evergreen, CO. He then made a career change to obtain an Associate's degree in Mortuary Science at San Antonio College. After working briefly as a funeral director in Denver, CO, Byron returned to teaching - this time as the chairman of the Department of Mortuary Science at San Antonio College where he remained until his retirement in 1994. He also owned farmland in western Kansas.

Byron married Charlotte L. Willingham of Brownwood, Texas on August 13, 1966 after meeting her two months earlier. Their brief courtship led to a 47 year loving marriage. The couple had one son Paul Byron Starr, 40, of Austin, Texas. Byron also leaves behind a loving daughter-in-law Janine Starr, and two grandchildren Charles Anthony Starr, 10, and Kathryn Grace Starr, 7, who were the loves of his life.

In his younger years, Byron enjoyed life by playing the piano in various bands and restaurants throughout Kansas and Colorado. He was also licensed as one of the youngest pilots in Montana. Following his retirement from teaching, Byron's enjoyment turned to travel, as he and his family ventured to Europe, Asia, and even Africa on numerous vacations.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, 01/11/2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The Fellowship of San Antonio, 23755 Canyon Golf Rd, San Antonio, TX 78258. The family requests memorial donations in lieu of flowers be offered to The Fellowship of San Antonio or to Vitas Hospice.

Mr. Starr may you rest in GOD'S KINGDOM, you were an inspiration to many. Being your student at SAC in 1975-76 was an enjoyable time for many of us who had the pleasure of being in your class. May the LORD BLESS your family during this time of sorrow in JESUS NAME.
