Carol Patricia Herter Miller, died on September 25,2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Professor Robert M. Miller and loving mother to David W. Miller, Abigail Gourley and Amanda Kathleen Miller.
Carol was born on February 6, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Nellie Herter. Kansas City was her cherished home until she left to attend William Woods College, a two-year women's school, in Fulton, Missouri. At William Woods, Carol was on the debate team, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and met Winston Churchill when he delivered his "Iron Curtain" speech at Westminster College, also in Fulton.
After graduating from William Woods, Carol received a degree in history from Northwestern University and was an active member of the Tri Delt Sorority. At Northwestern she met Robert Moats Miller, and there they were married in 1950. Carol had many life-long interests including music, ballet, languages, travel and literature and remained active in each of these endeavors until the time of her death. She was an active volunteer in the Triangle region.
She is survived by her three children; four grandchildren, and many other adoring relatives.
Funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Chapel Hill at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Little Sisters of the Poor, other Catholic Charities of your choice or any institutions supporting the arts.
Carol will be buried at St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery in Durham.
