Cecelia Stengel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 12 to Oct. 14, 2009.
STENGEL – Cecelia Romayne, known to many as Mom, passed away Oct. 11, 2009, at the age of 77, at her daughter's home with her loving family and devoted aide by her side. Born Nov. 21, 1931, in Pittsburgh, the only daughter born to the late Michael S. and Fern T. (Seifert) McNulty. She was formerly married to John V. Stengel, who passed away Feb. 8, 2007, and was predeceased by her grandson, Casey D. Stengel. She moved to Johnstown in 1958 and worked as a model for Bali Bra. In 1960, she began working for Glosser Bros. where she worked as a supervisor for more than 28 years. She was a member of Soroptimist Club for 15 years. Her children convinced her to move to Whitehall in 1989 to help them run Stengel Brothers Inc., a family run business. She enjoyed reading and watching classic movies and she loved animals. Her greatest love was being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We, as her family and friends, will never forget her remarkable character, beauty, elegance and strength, which served her throughout her life and in her final moments. She will be dearly missed by her family. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Stengel Gehringer, Whitehall; sons, John M. Stengel, and his wife, Cherry, Allentown; and D. Casey Stengel, and his wife, Jane, Bethlehem; and grandchildren, B. Jack Stengel, and his wife, Lisa, and their children, Kyle, Karlie and Jake, all of Allentown; Wanda Stengel Hohenshilt, and her husband, Michael, and their children, John and James, all of Allentown; Chrissy Stengel, San Francisco, Calif.; Sarah Stengel, Warminster; Lisa Stengel, Emmaus; Michael Stengel, Bethlehem; Danielle Gehringer, and her son, Donovin, Whitehall. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service and celebration of her life at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct., 17, at J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th and Hamilton streets, Allentown, where relatives and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Parkinson Foundation Inc., Office of Development, 1501 N.W. Dear Sue, John, Casey and families:

May it bring you some comfort knowing "Mama Steng" is not in pain any more. She's in a better place, whole again and smiling down on all of you.
Sue, your one in a million. Not many would have done what you did. Your mother adored you and you her. You took such great care of her. Don't think she's going to forget that. You'll never be alone. "Mama Steng" and Nina are going to be watching over you always. She had such a beautiful heart and soul, her smile would light up the room. I see where you get it from.
May good memories of mom bring you all comfort and keep her alive in your hearts, minds and souls forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.
Rest in peace "Mama Steng", until we meet again.........

Sincerely,
Cealy Durning

Dear Sue,
When we send our Mother back to God, our world changes. The only way to bear the grief is in the belief that she is now in a better place where there is no longer pain & suffering.
My sincerest hope is that you find peace in knowing that you are an exceptional daughter. You unselfishly cared for and nurtured "Mom" until her final day, & she will now watch over you with that same love & dedication.
My prayers are with you & your entire family.
