Charlene Owen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2015.
On October 9th, 2015 God called upon his angel Charlene Ayers Owen to come home to join her Mother and Father in Heaven. Charlene was born in St. Louis, MO on June 3rd, 1936; but resided in the Dallas area for most of her life. She was an incredible and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was the sweetest person with a beautiful heart and soul and never-ending smile. She savored life and treasured her many wonderful friends that she enjoyed spending time with or talking with on the phone. She touched the lives of many and was such a classy lady in every sense of the word. Charlene was a 3 time Leukemia survivor and when diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014, she remained dedicated in her work and in her will to fight her illness. She remained brave and strong, even throughout her final months. Throughout her life she loved sewing, cooking, traveling, crafting, reading, the theater and arts, music and the Opera. Fall was one of her favorite times of the year and she loved Christmas so she could display her huge collection of snowmen and of course she loved Angels. She enjoyed working at the Dallas Museum of Art for the past 11 years where she met and worked with many wonderful people she referred to as her "other" family.
Survived by her children, Lisa Owen and Jeffrey Owen, grandchildren, Cody & Tiara Nesler; brother Michael Ayers and his wife Sharon; nieces Amy Ayers and her son Michael; Jami Ayers and her daughter Charlee Jane. She also leaves behind numerous close & dear friends that she loved very much.
Charlene requested to be cremated and her ashes will be interred at the family plot in Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home in the L.N. "Bill" Sparkman Family Lounge on Sunday, November 1st from 2:30 - 4 pm. The family is grateful for the condolences and outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. She will be missed by so many.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to any cancer foundation in Charlene's honor.

There isn't a day that goes by that I do not think of Charlene. She is one of those people that makes a difference in your life whether you realized it at the time or not. She is always in my heart and I will cherish those moments that we ate lunch together at DMA or talked on the phone. I am going to miss her so much!

Charlene was the first person I met when I came to Dallas on Sept. 1st, 1952. We attended high school together, we were both born in Missouri, and strangely our mothers shared the same birthday, year and day. We have shared so many wonderful conversations about our Lord together, played bridge together, had breakfast together and sewed together, etc. I will miss you dearly, precious Christian Friend. Rest in PEACE beautiful lady!

Ms. Charlene will be missed dearly, she always gave me words of encouragement when my mom was sick. I remember our talks about Thrift Stores and how much we loved going to them. She was always all smiles and had a great story to tell, I will dearly miss those morning talks at the copier.
Prayers for your loss.
