Charles Secolsky Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2025.
Born in New York City, Charles "Chuck" Secolsky, 77, passed away on June 6, 2024, in Haverstraw, New York. Despite a difficult childhood and an adulthood marked by health challenges, Chuck was a vibrant, resilient, and beloved individual who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He received two master's degrees and earned a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, specializing in evaluation, assessment, and statistical analysis. His career spanned roles at a number of prestigious academic institutions, where he forged close bonds with colleagues and inspired students. Chuck was lead editor of an important and frequently utilized handbook on measurement, assessment and evaluation in higher education; this was one of the crowning achievements of his professional life.

He was a gifted athlete and good dancer, a devoted University of Illinois basketball fan and an exceptionally supportive friend and brother. Despite enormous health challenges in his later years - especially due to Parkinson's Disease - he remained highly engaged academically and intellectually, and he regularly kept up with family members and numerous friends and colleagues, some of whom were lovingly devoted to him.

Chuck will be remembered for his sense of humor, charm, strength in the face of adversity, intellectual brilliance and deep concern for the people in his life.

He is survived by his sister, Stephanie, and his longtime companion, Anna Bartmon, who was a close, loving friend for nearly 30 years.

Donations in Chuck's memory may be made to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
