CHARLES ZULLO Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2015.
ZULLO CHARLES J., Jr.
"Local entrepreneur, business leader and industry innovator dies at 85." Charles J. Zullo, Jr., age 85, of Washington, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 22, 1930, in Washington, PA, the son of the late Charles J., Sr. and Eleanor Caputo Zullo. Mr. Zullo was a graduate of Washington High School and then attended Washington Seminary. He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington. Mr. Zullo was a senior member of Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #175 in Washington, IOMA The International Oxygen Manufacturers Association Worldwide and a longtime member of GAWDA Gas And Welding District Association. He loved his work and his family. Mr. Zullo was passionate about supporting children's charities worldwide. He was Chairman and Founder of CGI group of companies based in Washington, PA. Charles Zullo began his legacy in an alley on Arch Street in Washington's Tylerdale section where his father taught him to weld as a young boy. It was here that General Welding Supply Company was founded in 1948, from humble beginnings. It grew to become CGI International Group of Companies, one of the largest independently owned industrial gas companies in the Northeastern United States providing service to over 15 states. The CGI Group of Companies headquartered in Washington, PA for the last 67 years includes CGI International, LLC, CGI International, Inc., and General Hydrogen Corporation located in Proctor, West Virginia. Known as an innovator in the industrial gas industry, he built the only privately held hydrogen company in the United States, providing hydrogen gas to all the major power companies in the northeastern U.S. Over the years, he acquired experiences that cannot be taught, skills that are hard to come by and friends that lasted a lifetime. He built a family, business and life that will be remembered for generations. Charles' motto, "nothing happens until someone sells," has become a company mantra. Charles attributed his success in business to his parents and the discipline, skills and training he acquired as a marine sergeant in the 2nd division. His skill as a marine sharpshooter earned him a military medal. His pride in being a United States Marine was well known among all who knew him. On February 12, 1951, in Washington, he married the love of his life, Mary Aldine Camps, who died August 31, 2010. Mr. Zullo was the loving father of six daughters, Deborah (David) Caruso of Lauderdale by the Sea, FL, Cathy J. (Joseph) Angeli of Margate, FL, Eileen Zullo of Pittsburgh, Cindy L. Zullo of Washington, Sandra L. Anderl of Wshington and Lisa J. (Sonnino) Bruni of Bethel Park; and his son, Charles J. Zullo III, who preceded him in death. Surviving is a sister, Marlene Wilson of Washington; and his grandchildren, David Charles Caruso, Michael Joseph Angeli, Olivia Lauren Angeli, Zoe Muskan Zullo, Nathan Duane Chadwick, Damian Lee Chadwick, Justin Charles Chadwick, Stephen Hans Anderl, Ian Charles Anderl, Nicholas Francesco Bruni, Alexandra Aldine Bruni, Hallie Mesta and Mitchel Charles Zullo; also surviving are seven great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James Wilson; and a son-in-law, Stephen Anderl. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in DALE D. DeANGELO FUNERAL HOME at 1290 Jefferson Ave. in Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2015, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church at 320 Henderson Ave., Washington, PA. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in McMurray. In lieu of flowers, please support Mr. Zullo's favorite charities, Smile Train at www.smiletrain.org and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org. A guestbook is available at:

Dede,
My sincere condolences and sympathy to you and your entire family, all of whom I have very fond remembrances. As childhood friends at St. Hillary School, I haven't seen your father since that time, however I recognized him immediately in his handsome photo from my childhood memories. I always very much enjoyed visiting your house and family, Samson and Chang included.

My condolences also for the loss of your mother and your husband last year of which I just learned.

As they revel in God's glory in heaven, may God's grace keep you all together in undying love for one another.

Sunday morning...my heart is sad for our loss. However, I rejoice in knowing that we (my brothers and sister) had the privilege of sharing time with him this past July. I respected him not only because he is an elder in our family, but also as a true Icon to be admired. I, in future days and weeks, shall think of how many times during our last visit together, he would smile, and a twinkle of tears would appear in his eyes, as he would remind his caretaker, "Take care of these people, they are my family!" For that day, whatever amount of his happiness that may be accredited to me personally, I thank our Lord for the privilege of being a small part of that time. Cousin Charles shall be missed, and a real void in my future visits to Washington. Much Love to all! Don F. Zullo

Dear Zullo Family,
Almost all the great World War 2 Tylerdale generation have been called to eternity. What a wonderful, hardworking, ground-breaking generation they were. How lucky we were to have had them as parents and leaders and friends.

Charles Zullo, was a shining example of the men of that generation. He brought out the best of that generation - and left a timeless legacy for future generations to emulate.

May you be comforted with the beautiful memories of Charles Zullo that time can never steal. May you find peace through your tears, knowing you will be together again someday and it will be forever.

My Deepest Sympathy,
Linda Francis

It saddens me to hear of the passing of Mr.Zullo. I was fortunate to work for his firm in Washington, Pa and found him to be a proud Marine as well as a businessman. Prayers to his family, and, may he rest in peace.

I had the pleasure to work for "Mr. Z" as I called him and he called me "Mrs. Supervisor" He loved his family and his long history of being in business. He was proud to be a Marine and saddened when his only son died at an early age, as well as a son-in-law. He was a generous man and showed much respect for me. I had respect for him like my own father. He was a man of many words and views. My heart is saddened with his passing but he is now at peace. Sending prayers to the family
