My condolences to the Mowles´ family on Shawn´s passing. As a counselor at MHS I was impressed with all of the Mowles kids that went through those hallowed halls and became leaders of their respective communities. I credited M/M Mowles (parents) in raising such highly principled young men. Shawn´s legacy and well-lived life is a testament to that upbringing. I would concede that he was taken too soon but also credit his accomplishments and footprint he left us to cherish. Rest in peace Shaun.

I first met Shawn in the mid-70´s. After being medically retired from the military due to the wounds I received in Viet Nam, I moved to Midland. My mother had moved there from Oklahoma during my service years.
A local business man allowed me to utilize a health spa he owned to continue my rehab. His name was Paul Thorpe. My Mom knew Paul through 1st Baptist Church where she was the pianist. During this time I met a friend of Paul´s named Frank Sheperd. He was big into Slow Pitch Softball.
Frank later on recruited me to play on a Team. I eventually was recruited by Paul and his Team (Dotson Datsun).
On this Team was a firey infielder named Jimmy Mowles. Jimmy was Shawn´s Dad. We had a very formidable Team back in those years.
Shawn was our bat boy and he loved doing it.
Years later I left Midland and moved to Dallas and then in 1993 to Longview.
Around 2000 I was in the Golf Shop @ Pinecrest CC in Longview. We were getting ready for a big out and the shop was full.
All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I hear this loud voice, "DOC Sledge, is that you?" It was Shawn!!!!!
DOC was a nickname I received in the military because I was in the medical branch and fought along side Recon Marines in Viet Nam.
The memories are what will get all of us thru this tragic loss. But knowing that one day we will all meet again is most important of all.
RIP, my friend and thank you, for being you.
May God bless all his family and friends during this trying time. All of you are in my prayers.

I had the honor and privilege of meeting Shawn in 1986 when I moved to Midland and played softball on the same team with him, Mike and Scott until 1993. Shawn was a great guy who was an outstanding person, teammate and someone I thought the world of. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike, Scott and the entire Mowles family during this difficult time and I pray the good Lord will comfort you.

Shawn was a special, precious friend of mine and my family. We all knew him to be a friend who would do anything in the world he could for any of us. He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and Shawn lived it every day. I appreciated him, enjoyed his company, and loved him! This world is a better place because of Shawn Mowles. Praying for peace and comfort for Tammy, his Mom, brother, Tyler, Aslan and all who will miss this giant of a man! He loved much, and he was loved much!

Shawn's family lived across the street from us when growing up on Mariana. My dad and his dad were great friends. Spent many hours with the Mowles kids growing up. God Bless your family. We will all see him again. Great comfort in that.

Shawn was my Fiji big brother. I wouldn´t have been a Fiji without him as he lived with an SAE from my hometown and I met Shawn and he got me invited to Fiji rush events. I´ve always thought the world of him. Outstanding person.

Shawn taught me more about living than anyone I've ever known. He was loved by everyone who knew him and was the most honest, consistent, steadfast friend one could ever ask. Gone far too soon but likely making heaven a much better place also.
