Cynthia Gay Hinchey, a beautiful child of God, was called home June 2, 2013 after a long fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Cynthia was born to Bill & Joyce Gay May 1, 1961 in Port Arthur, Texas and grew up in Pasadena, Texas, graduating from Sam Rayburn High School in 1979. She went on to Texas State University, where she graduated with a BA in Home Economics in 1983. Moving back to Houston, she was subsequently employed in the marketing and art department of the Houston Sports Association at the Astrodome from 1983-1991. In October of 1991 she married Marc Hinchey and they made their home near Cleveland, Texas for seven years before returning to Houston in 1998.
Cynthia was a talented potter, writer, and painter and marketed her creations through her own company, "Cynsations by Cyn". Her pottery exhibit at the 1998 Houston International Festival was chosen "Best of Show." Despite being disabled with MS, she continued to make art and participated in the "Healing Arts" program of Art League Houston. She was a great believer in the healing power of art and always signed communications "In the Spirit of Creativity." She also served as an advocate for newly diagnosed MS patients for several years. She leaves behind her husband, Marc Hinchey, parents, Bill & Joyce Gay, brother, Keith Gay (Elizabeth), step-daughter, Brianna Hinchey (Michael), grandson, Aiden Stockton, niece and nephew, Hannah and Ehren Gay, extended family and many, many friends.
A memorial service for Cynthia has been scheduled for 10 am Saturday June 15th at Zion Lutheran Church, 3606 Beauchamp, Houston, Texas, 77009.
Donations in her memory may be given to Art League Houston, 1953 Montrose, and Houston, Texas, 77007 or to Zion Lutheran Church.

Our hearts have their moments of sorrow but know in time they can be lifted to rejoice in the spirit and love Cynthia has given us. Wonderful people and supportive families are common but yours is particularly special including the Ridge Street bond many of us share.
We still hang with care each year the Christmas ornament Cynthia designed for us. This year we suspect it will shine a little bit brighter than the rest. We may not see it at first, but it will shine brighter just like Cynthia did while she was with us.
Kind regards,
Joe Fischer

Rick and I just loved Cynthia, she was spunky and fun. She was an amazing artist and we treasure the artwork magnets on our fridge. It's fun to think of her every day. Thank you for all the photos on this website! A great collection. God Bless her.

I will miss Ms.Cynthia dearly, I thank her Marc and her parents for giving me the opportunity to work with her as her caregiver. And the short time that I got to know Ms. Cynthia I saw what a kind, loving, creative person she was. My prayers are for Ms. Cynthia family at this time.

I will truly miss my classmate/friend, Cynthia. Her artwork was very beautiful and creative. I will also miss our deep discussion on life issues, in art class. Cynthia was a kind and intelligent lady.

Cynthia was a victim of the dreaded desease MS. She was a fighter and a remarkable person. May she be blessed, I only wish I knew her better. She was a friend of Nancy Rodrique, formerly of Houston, now of Eagle, WI that I meet in Art Class. Nancy, MS sufferer, was devasted when I shared the recent passing of her friend Cynthia. We both send our her condolences to her Husband and Family. God Bless, Nancy Rodrique and Phil Herman

Cynthia's strength, dedication, creative drive and thoughtfulness were remarkable. I'll miss visiting with her every week at Art League and the positive impact she had within the group and beyond.
