NEWPORT NEWS - On Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, Darrell Jeffrey Christopher Smith was summoned to heaven by one of God's swiftest Angels. He was a member of the W.D. Williams Evangelistic Center in Hampton, Va., where he served in many different capacities. Darrell was born on May 24, 1954, in Newburgh, N.Y., to Joseph E. Smith and the late Julia A. Smith. He attended the Newburgh, N.Y., public school system and later joined the Peace Corps. Darrell then enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany where he faithfully served his country. Darrell was always an industrious and hard working individual who gave generously of his time, talents and resources to those in need. His entrepreneurial dream of many years became reality when he established the Custom Tree Service, which had a wide client base in the Hampton Roads area. Darrell is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Jamie A. Smith; his sons, Lemarcus Smith, Raschard Harden, Savarios Banks, Jayce Moore, Johnathan Moore and Tolando Harris, and his daughter, KamiLah Brown. He is also survived by his father, Joseph E. Smith of Newburgh, N.Y.; his sisters, Rebbecca Evelyn Smith of Memphis, Tenn., Sybil Marshall (Richard) and Ursula Hill-Smith of Detroit, Mich., and Beth Howard (Clyde) of Southfield, Mich.; brothers, Joseph Smith Sr. (Faye) of Vacaville, Calif., Ronald Smith (Sandra) of Newburgh, N.Y., Steven Smith (Angela) of Sanford, N.C., and Eric Smith of Newburgh, N.Y.; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Darrell will be lovingly remembered for his great sense of humor and his witty character. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Church of Jesus, 630 Anderson Lane, Hampton. Entombment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.

I've known Darrell for about 8 years. My son name is Daniel Thompson Jr. My son use to go to there house and ride his bike with his daughter Camilla. Darrell was a blessing to my son just being apart of Camilla's family. My son adore him for who he was. He is truly one of gods children. Darrell did some buying from our company & it was always a pleasure to see him. I was so glad to see him enjoy some successes recently. He truly deserved it & will be greatly missed. My sympathy to the Smith family on the loss of your loved one. Many years ago I met Darrell when he asked me to take a chance on him as a tenant in my rental home. What must a son to do when is father has flown home.....

That's a question that i can't really answer. What to do? I really don't know. It's is hard to sleep. What must i do, but I so glad a know a man name jesus who died for me and my sin that some day that I will have everlasting life. Sometime you would like to ask why, but you really know why but don't want to question the work of the lord. I remember when my daddy ran to jesus before it was to late, and that is sometime i will always remember. Not only was he my father but at the same time he was my friend and in a friendship there are going to be problems but you don't let the problem beat you, you beat them. The times that we had together that I will miss.When I got the news I couldn't say nothing but "NO" but I will never forget when I started to cry. I felt something rap around me and I know that is was nothing but god raping his self around me. Then I started thinking god for all he is worth and I felt better, not knowing that why I was praise my father jesus he was god getting me ready for this day. yes it hurt but what is a son to do when his father has flown home? Remember and man name jesus and everthing will be ok.

To my family I say, yes a angel has lwft the family but if you will say prayed up everthing will be ok. because sometimes you have to go through to get somewhere in life.i was told you can let this hold you down or you can let this be a stepping stool.
