David Antis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. A graveside service was held at Hebrew Rest #3 Cemetery, New Orleans on Friday July 8. Tharp-Sontheimer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. He was known throughout SW Louisiana as Mr. Dave at Brandt's Jewelry Store, Crowley . He was also known for his gentle spirit, kindness and smile. He never knew a stranger.

He was born in New Orleans , LA on December 9, 1916, the youngest of 4 children. He graduated from Fortier High School and lived in New York for several years. He spent most of his life in Southwest Louisiana .

He was preceded in death by two loving wives, Rae Burglass Antis, who died in 1958, and Gerry Ames Antis, who died in 2006, by his siblings, Max Antis, Herman Antis and Sarah Antis DeRussy, all of New Orleans and his parents Kate Rabinowitz Antis and Isadore Antis.

Mr. Antis was cofounder and owner/manager of Brandt's Jewelry Store, Crowley , for over 50 years. Prior to that time he worked at Gem Jewelry, Crowley which followed several years as a salesman for Croton Watch Company.

He served in a medics unit in Europe during World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason receiving the 50 year award. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; Order of the Eastern Star; long time member of the American Legion Post 15; member of the Crowley Lions Club ; served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Crowley Industrial Development Corporation and the Crowley Chamber of Commerce. He was one of the founders of Yeshurum Synagogue of Lafayette, LA and was a member of Temple Shalom, Lafayette and Temple Sinai, New Orleans and the B'nai Brith. He was an avid golfer for many years.

He survived by a son , Jay Antis, of Crowley; a daughter, Barbara Levingston (Jeff) of Cleveland, MS and 3 grandchildren, Kevin Levingston (Simone) of McLean, VA; Carla Levingston Polikov (Chad) of Atlanta, GA; and Leslie Levingston Sandler,(Joey) of Houston, TX. ; three great grandchildren, Andrew, Alex and Emily Levingston of McLean, VA; brother-in-law, Beryl Ames (Jackie), sister-in-law, Sarah Rabin of New Orleans and brother-in-law, Iving Burglass (Florence) of New Jersey. Barbara Jean, and Jay,
I know this is probably not the best time to remind you of this, but you were so lucky to have him for so long.

Jay, I was saddened to learn of your father's death. Mr. Dave was such a nice gentleman and he will be missed tremendously by the folks who knew him best. Mr. Dave led a very full life and he was proudest of his family! May God continue to bless you and your family, and may your father rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
