Father David Banga
November 11, 1943 - December 14, 2012
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Father David Banga of Carlyle, Sask., at the age of 69. Fr. David passed away while working with the Sisters of Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Emma Banga, brothers Arnold and Delmar and sister Arnella. Fr. David will be forever lovingly remembered by his sister Marilyn (Robert) Wallis, nephews Trevor and Corey, sister-in-law Mary (Arnold) Banga, niece Roxanne (Dean) Murphy, children Michael (Kendra) Murphy and son Kaine and daughter Jordyn, Daryl Murphy, niece Jennifer (Ryan) Tourney, niece Noelle (Neil) Odegard, children Isabella and Levi, sister-in-law Janie (Delmar) Banga, nephew Kevin (Bev) Banga, children Jason, Kristy and Misty, nephew Davin (Kim) Banga children Ryland and Avery, niece, Alison (Lonnie) Brady children Alex and Grace, brother Alex (Mary) Banga and children Kirsten, Mark and Claire Ann and their families.
Fr. David was ordained to the priesthood May 21/1972 at St. Elizabeth's Church, Stockholm, Sask. He had attended St. David's Elementary School and St. Joseph's High School in Stockholm, Sask and completed grade 12 and 1st year university in Muenster, Sask. He spent one year at the Benedictine Monastery and then completed his philosophical and theological studies at St. Peter's Seminary, London, Ont. David had just celebrated his 40th anniversary to the priesthood May 21/2012 and retired Sept.30/2012. He had served parish appointments in Candiac, Glenavon, Estevan, Govan, Nokomis, Semans, Strasbourg, Moosomin, Wapella, Fairlight, Rocanville, Windthorst, Kipling, Kennedy, Wawota, Manor, Arcola and lastly, Carlyle. He was the Director of the Kenosee Boys' and Girls' Camp for the past 39 years. He built the Kome'N'See and the Mother Teresa retreat Centre at Kenosee Lake.
Fr. David was a humble and loving man. He served God and gave his all, held nothing back and loved everyone. Heaven will be his Joy. David remained faithful to his vocation and radiated the true spirit of Christ in his ministry. His greatest joys were spending time with people one-on-one, the sacramental life and celebrating the Eucharist. He loved to celebrate with the community, enjoyed music, the family farm, his horse, laugh, tell stories and best of all, to cook and bake.
Fr. David had a great love for the Blessed Mother Teresa and the members of her Missionaries of Charity. Mother Teresa was the highlight of his life. He had first met Mother Teresa in 1973 in India and in 1982 was MC for Mother Teresa's visit to Canada in Winnipeg, Man. Fr. David had met and worked with Mother Teresa several times. Fr. David had the humbling experience of saying Mass at Mother Teresa's tomb when in India in 2010. In the final chapter of his life after retiring, he had just returned to India on Oct. 22 to witness the progress of his life-long dream: the boarding school he was having built in Kharsala, West Bengal, India.
We mourn his sudden and unexpected death on Friday, Dec.14, 2012 but are comforted to know that he was happy doing what he loved - ministering to the "poorest of the poor". He was buried on Sunday, Dec.16, 2012 on the school property. He has been honoured by his close clergy friends, Sisters of Mother Teresa and all of the village people and especially the children who will attend his school once it is completed in 2013.
Please dry your tears now and rejoice with me "FOR THE ECSTACY OF ETERNAL LOVE HAS NOW BEGUN FOR ME" – as promised by Jesus. Alleluia!!
Fr. David's favourite sayings: "Peace and Joy In Him Who Loved Us First" "Be Crazy Lovers like Jesus" "Smile God Loves You" "Yes Amen Alleluia" "God loves us all the time – all the time God loves us" "I Thirst to Love You and Be Loved by You" A Celebration of Life for Fr. David will held at St. Elizabeth Church, Stockholm, Sask. To be announced at a later date. Expressions of condolences may be forwarded to the family at: [email protected] Anyone wishing to memorialize Fr. David, may make donation to: Mother Teresa Centre and/or India school. Pls specify. The Kenosee Lake Kitchen party crew will miss the "heart" of the camp. Fr. B's unflagging support for Traditional fiddle music, his love of dance and fellowship, his passion for great food and the spreading of LOVE in the world are just a few things that we will miss. I will miss his friendship, and his way of keeping to the HEART of the matter, without pulling any punches. We had great plans for this summer, he and I, and will dearly miss his presence in my day-to-day. "Just Love one another.. the rest is just noise".

Lots of love to Father's family. How very blest we are to have shared so much time with him. Joe would call and say "Father it is your biggest sinner calling." Father always responded, 'Oh Joe! How are you?" and laughed. We loved him dearly.

Honor and good memories from someone who was Father David's classmate at St. David's one-room school from grades one to eight. His picture looks amazingly like the one I have of us in grade seven! Sincere sympathy to his family and friends, of which I know he had many.

Deepest sympathy to Fathers family!! He will b remembered in our home for his humor! Sometimes we laughed till we cried,he loved the "crazy, outlandish" humor of my sisters. Ohhh the water fights we had at camp, the flagpole,(Jenny!!!, do u remember?)defending the boys who messed up the kitchen at midnite cause they we're hungry!!!I could tell a hundred stories of laughter and thats how I will choose to remember him.
