I only knew Denise from meeting her a few times at my sister, Tracey's, house. It was apparent, however, that she was thought of as family. It was easy to see what a thoughtful and kindhearted person she was. I know that she meant the world to my sister and I wish I could thank Denise for everything she did for Tracey and her family. I'm sure she will be missed by many, many people. She was one of a kind. I hope her family will accept my sincere condolences. God Bless you all,
Julie Clark

I will remember Denise as a person who was guided in life by her love of family. Many were blessed by feeling a part of her wider family.

Dear LaFlamme family, I only met Denise once, and the only family member I know is Patrick. Yet it was obvious at today's service that you are a family who supports each other with great love and great strength. Mr. LaFlamme's tribute was beautiful and touching. Take comfort in each other and in fond memories of Denise. I send my wishes for peace and healing to all of you.

“My Friend”…These two words are how many of my conversations started and ended with Denise. “Good morning, my friend”, “I love you, my friend”, or just a hug with the words whispered “my friend”. When Denise and I met, I was young, only 25. I looked up to Denise and in a way, she was my idol. I was a young mom, and she guided me. In those days, I called her “Ma”. And she called me a Daughter. The last five or so years, I became “My Friend”. An honor. Because, Denise didn't call me that lightly. She called me that like I was close to her heart. The way she said it, I knew. We never, ever ended a conversation without a heartfelt “I Love you”. And Denise's “I love you's” are not without meaning. The way she said it, you just knew, she really really did. It gives me comfort to know that I loved Denise with all my heart, and I think she knew it. These last two weeks were different though, she didn't call me “my friend”, or her “adopted daughter”….I commented to her during a visit how the sign on her door said “visitors, please don't stay more than 10 minutes” ( or something like that).. I had been there an hour. She said “you are my sister, its ok.”
I promise to love like you did, My Friend.

Philip - what you shared today at Denise's memorial was incredible, & incredibly heartbreaking. I'm so very sorry for your loss, & for your children's loss.
Disbelief is so much of what I know you are all feeling now.
When Trish contacted me to let me know, my heart broke for you & your family.
Please know you're in my thoughts as you are very clearly in so many others. I wish you strength & the ability to reach out to all of those that love you through this tragic time.

My initial introduction to Denise was a little abrupt to say the least. I was picking up my first grade daughter after school. As she came down the hall, she ran straight into the open arms of what I thought was a complete stranger. I couldn't imagine who this woman was that had captured the heart of my little girl. Little did I know how much a part of our lives Denise would become from that moment on through our years at DES. What I wouldn't give for one of her enveloping hugs that warmed your soul. I am saddened that we lost touch once our kids entered high school, but we cherish the many memories that can never be taken away. Our hearts go out to Phil, Amanda, Patrick and the entire Lacasse-Laflamme family.

Phil, Amanda, Pat & Family,
Our deepest sympathies for the loss of such a vibrant, caring, wonderful woman. I remember meeting Denise when Dalton & Pat were in pre-school and our friendship blossomed to where I considered her (and all of you) family. I will never forget all of the good times we had together from seeing sand castles in Hampton to karoke at the Laflamme's where the only words Denise remembered to the song was "Buttercup". (Dalton still calls her that). We'll also never forget our endless hours watching all the boys sports practices & games. Denise was always there for my family when we needed it (as were the rest of you). Taylor will always cherish her time with her "Neecie & Papa". Our hearts are heavy with sadness but she also left us better people having been fortunate enough to know her. I thank her for allowing us that opportunity. Love to all.

To tell the truth, I don't remember how Denise and I became friends. She became such a part of my life it seems as if she has always been there. I feel so honored that she found it worth her time to care about me and make me feel a part of her family. I love you Denise and will miss you terribly. Please save me a place somewhere near you in heaven. Your friend, Erla

We know the entire town of Durham is mourning the loss of Denise. She was a beacon of the community, just a bright and shining light to all who crossed her path. She was so kind to our family when we lived there. She was especially a blessing to our son, Aaron. Durham won't be quite the same without her. Our thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort go out to the LaCasse-LaFlamme family.

I met Denise when I started working at LLBean, in the OFC, picking. She was a great co-worker and would help anyone at a moment's notice. She became a great friend to me and someone that I could confide in. I will miss her dearly. RIP my friend. You will always be in my heart!

Our deepest and most sincere condolences to Denise's family. We went to EL together and we also visited each other when she lived in Sabattus. She was always such a happy person. She will be missed tremendously!

Our 8th grade class. Living down street from Denise was so much fun. We must have made a path on the pavement from visiting each other. Miss You.

14 years ago I answered the phone at the bank I worked at. A woman I had never met before in my life was on the other end. We started chatting, found out we lived in the same town, and knew some of the same people. We discussed our kids- mine only being a year old at the time, the son she spoke of was in High School. We had a very deep, personal coversation for about an hour that day. She was so very nice and sincere- I've never forgotten what she said me. 14 years later, she has had both of my children while substituting at DCS, both truly enjoyed her- and do you know- I never had the opportunity to ever personally meet her. Heaven in blessed to have such an angel.

When I think of Denise, the word "Love" fills my mind. She had the wonderful gift of making others around her feel loved. She adored her family, and as her daughter in law she always made me feel welcomed in her home and in her heart. I know you are with us Denise, and I will miss you. Until we meet again, I love you.

We first met Denise and Phil, when we attended a candle light vigil at the Durham center, after 9-11. Her hug was sincere and true, and we were blessed to have many more good hugs that followed. Our children's well being were always on the very top of her list, with what ever community role she was fulfilling. "If you are missed, then you have done well", our hearts will miss you Denise.

A few years ago, I was passing through North Pownal, and stopped at the Garden Spot for container plants.
As I approached the checkout, the woman at the register was staring at me with a look of familiarity. “You're a Libby, aren't you?” I looked at her and said, “...and you're a LaCasse!”
She told me her name, I told her mine, and with an ear-to-ear smile on her face, she came around the counter, arms wide open, and gave me an enormous hug. We reminisced of the times Denise hung out with my sisters & brothers and family.
Denise was a lovely lady and she always had a smile and a kind word. The world is a better place because of her.
My condolences to her husband, children, family and her friends.

We would always be told if we were having a substitute teacher. I always wished it would be Mrs. LaFlamme. She was the substitute that us kids could joke around with, and have fun for a day. She was became really close with my family. I could go to her for help with anything. I loved whenever I saw her, because I knew I could talk to her. She will be missed and forever in our hearts.

My Dearest Denise - love of my life - my mentor, my heart and my strength. You were so sick and in so much pain and the road ahead was to be an extreme challenge - Overwhelming for you would be an understatement. God let us have you with us for twenty three years - years of happiness, love and in some cases many of your dreams coming true. You were cherished, loved and respected by all and although you have left us, we know our memories of you will be with us throughout our lives - you will never be forgotten. Your beauty, your love and your inspiration - the relationship we cherished will be a testament to your life and its accomplishments. It hurts to miss you and not having you with me - I will always have this emptiness - we were a team me and you. I love you - always will and you will live in my heart until we meet again. Thank you for a wonderful life together. Your loving husband, Philip

Denise became my dear friend over the years and I will cherish her memory. We shared many laughs and tears and I will miss her happy smiling face. She was a great friend to many, a great teacher to many, and a devoted member of the Durham community and supporter of the best education for all our children. Her loss will have an impact on so many, just as her love of life did. Allan and I are grateful to have known Denise and we will always remember her dedication to service. But most of all her love of life and friends and family. Rest in Peace our friend. Allan & Deb Purinton
