Dianne Hoff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 24 to Jan. 25, 2012.

Dianne E. Hoff
Jan. 31, 1934-Jan. 20, 2012

On a wintery eve, after a courageous battle with Alzhiemer's Disease, Dianne set forth on the journey to her Eternal home, to be with those dear family and friends that went before her. She was at her Bainbridge Island residence, attended by family as she departed.
Dianne graduated from DuBois High School, class of 1951, in her hometown of DuBois PA. She maintained lifelong friendships with two of her classmates, Dornell Jacobs and Gail Chamberlain. After high school she joined the Navy, where she met her former husband, Peter (Pete) M. Hoff. They had five children, Mike, Millie, Peter, David and Glen. In 1968, upon Pete's retirement from the United States Navy, the family settled in Lynnwood, WA. At the age of 44, Dianne went back to school and received a certificate in office management, and from there commenced a 27 year career with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, where she was the Sheriff's Administrative Assistant for three former Snohomish County Sheriffs. She retired in 2006 at the age of 72. She referred to the Sheriff's department as her "second family".
Dianne is survived by her sister, Eleanor (Jacksonville, FL); her former husband, Peter M. Hoff (Arlington, WA); dear friends and in-laws, Frank and Jean Hoff (Whidbey Island, WA); son, Michael and his wife, Joan and their two boys (grandsons), Andrew and Grant (Bainbridge Island, WA); daughter, Millie Hoff (Lynnwood, WA) and her three children (grandchildren), Justin Hoff (New York City, NY), Amy Richardson (Seattle, WA), and Eddy Richardson and his wife and their two children (great-grandchildren), Zachary and Natalya (Monroe, WA); son, Peter N. Hoff and his wife, Lisa (Yarmouth Port, MA); son, Glen C. Hoff (Mt. Vernon, WA); dear friends, Dornell Jacobs (DuBois, PA), Gail Chamberlain (Long Beach, CA), Barbara Harvey (Arlington, WA) and Diane Frauenholtz (Everett, WA); her beloved English Bulldog "Bruno"; and the menagerie of squirrels and birds she fed in her backyard at her Lynnwood home.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred B. Doutt; beloved step-father, Edgar T. "Peg" Doutt; father, James "Skip" E. Lias; son, David E. Hoff; dear friend, Gerri Hoyme; and her true friend and companion, Don E.R. Robertson.
She was the strength at the center of our family, and a dear friend to many. She gave much of herself to those she loved, and she will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2012, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 5124 164th St SW, Edmonds.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to NAMI or to Susan G, Komen.

Dear Millie and Boys: We were sad to hear of your Mom's death. I did not know she was ill, and I remember her from years ago when we lived next door, and I sometimes babysat. I have often thought of your family, remembering that sad, awful day so many years ago.
Your Mom was a good friend and neighbor to our Mom especially in her later years when she was alone, and we know that that was not always easy! Please accept our condolances.

Dianne radiated joy, strength, kindness and decency to all around her. I will never forget her laugh, her unique voice, or her great sense of humor, rooted in her deep intelligence, wisdom and humanity. As a close family friend, Dianne always made me feel welcome and cared for in her home. I'm grateful to have known her and thankful for the fine family she raised, with whom I've enjoyed the company of, and laughed incessantly with, for over 30 years. I cannot think of a time I didn't enjoy being around Dianne, even when she was angry. She was even funnier then! Your work here is done, Dianne, but your spirit lives on in your children and the many lives you touched. Thank you for everything. pjm

Diane was a force to be reckoned with, I often wondered why she wasn't carrying a gun and badge making crooks tow the line. A beautiful person who impressed me the minute I met her at the sheriff's office. To her family, thank you for sharing Diane with us.
