The family of Donald James Dobie is sad to announce his passing on October 21, 2013 at the age of 84.
Don was born in Edmonton on November 06, 1928. He was predeceased by his parents Davina (Robson) and James Dobie. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Eileen (Halliday), sons Jim (Terri Schindel) and Gordon (Brenda); his daughter Maureen (Don Berbenak), his sister Barbara (Spellman) as well as grandchildren Heather, Allison, Rebecca, Tom, Kevin, Chuck and great- grandchildren Lydia and Bennett.
Don was a lifelong resident of Edmonton. He and Eileen raised their family in Crestwood where they became active members of the community. When his children and grandchildren were growing up, Don was involved in coaching and helping out with various sporting teams, participating in neighbourhood events and generally pitching in whenever a job needed doing. Don was a long-time member of St. Andrews United Church and was active in service to his community through the Heart and Stroke Foundation, as a member of the Masonic Order and with many other charitable organizations over his lifetime. Don retired in 1989 as (acting) City Assessor with the City of Edmonton ending a career of civic service that spanned 4 decades.
Cremation has taken place. The Service for Don will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 06, 2013 at St. Andrews United Church; 9915 – 148 Street, Edmonton.
In memory of Don donations may be made to the Masonic Higher Education Fund c/o the Grand Lodge of Alberta, 330 - 12 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T5R 0H2 or to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, 10531 Kingsway Avenue N.W., Edmonton, AB T5H 4K1. Don's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the cardiology and geriatric assessment teams at the Misericordia Hospital, emergency care providers at the Misericordia and University of Alberta Hospitals, Dr. Leong-Sit at the Allin Clinic, the care providers at St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital and numerous other health care professionals for their support and care of Don during the final stages of his life.

Pleasure in life is served best when getting to know individuals who possess character, moral integrity and compassion. I first met Don when a member of the Masonic Order and indeed he was such a man. My condolences to all. David Ruptash....
