GENOA | Dorothy M. Bickel, 91, formerly of Genoa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Howd Nursing Home, Moravia.
Mrs. Bickel was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Ludlowville, the daughter of the late Leon D. and Mildred (Best) Curtis, and had been a Genoa resident for most of her life. She was a devoted homemaker and had co-partnered with her late husband, Joseph, in operating a family dairy and crop farm on Creek Road. Dorothy was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Church of King Ferry, and had been a communicant of the former St. Hillary's Church in Genoa, where she had been a member of the Rosary Society.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Joseph S. Bickel, on Nov. 20, 2004.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Driscoll (Edward), of Genoa, and Joan Moore (Bill), of Moravia; three grandchidlren, Timothy Driscoll (Jennifer), Kathleen Thompson (Robert) and Patrick Ryan (Jennifer); six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, in Our Lady of the Lake Church, King Ferry, with the Rev. Richard Shatzel as celebrant. Spring interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Scipio Center. Friends may call on the family at the church 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Southern Cayuga Ambulance, P. O. Box 7, Poplar Ridge, NY 13139 or to the SPCA.
Arrangements are with the Shurtleff Funeral Home, Genoa.
