Dorothy Collins Goolsby, 90, passed away September 5, 2016. She was born September 9, 1925 to Henry Clay Collins and Marietta Bridges Collins of Myrtle, MS. She was a graduate of the University of Mississippi. In 1947, Dorothy married James C. Goolsby of Lafayette County, MS. The joy of their life was their daughter, Mary. Dorothy enjoyed a long career teaching in Memphis City Schools. Her retirement years were filled with the love of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had the opportunity to experience other world cultures during the trips she made to Europe. Hers was a life of service to family and God. For 55 years, Dorothy and James were members of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church. After James' passing in 2013, she became a member of Aldersgate UMC. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, her brother, William Collins and her sister, Mary Frances Collins Barber. She is survived by her daughter Mary Goolsby Coughlin (Robert), grandchildren Alexander Coughlin (Meredith) and Elizabeth Coughlin Owen (Anthony), and great grandchildren, Catherine Collins Owen, James Robert Owen and Collins Rose Coughlin. Services will be held Saturday, September 10th, at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119. Visitation is 10:30 a.m. and the funeral service is 11:30 a.m.. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials are made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church 4459 Willow Road, Memphis, TN 38117.
