Douglas KEITH Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Jun. 20, 2018.
KEITH, Douglas Wesley Douglas Wesley Keith of Sovereign, SK passed away at the Rose Villa, Rosetown, SK on February 21, 2018 at the age of 74. Doug was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, farmer and long-distance truck driver. Growing up on the family farm, Doug was introduced to farming operations early in life. He was proud to be the third generation living on the Keith farm homestead. Doug is survived by his son Grant Keith of Eatonia, SK; Rose (Bart) Bender of Vancouver, BC and Jennifer Keith of Winnipeg, MB. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren - Grant's children Tori and Taryn Gilchrest, Aaron Keith and Veronica Keith; Rose's daughters Morgan and Quincy Bender and Jennifer's son Alexander and his great-grandson Nicolas. He is also survived by his brother Don (Janie) of Livermore CA and sister Jeanne (John) of Saskatoon. Doug will be mourned by his mother-in-law Clara Rose and brother-in-law Albert (Reta) Rose. He will be also missed by several nieces and nephews - Ellen Keith Shaw and Stacy Keith Heffel and Adam Burbage as well as Sever and Art Rose. Doug was predeceased in 2016 by his beloved wife of 53 years Donna Pearl Keith (née Rose), his Father in 1983, his Mother in 2007 and brother Grant in 1949. Doug was born June 10, 1943 in Milden, SK, second son of Ivan and Jean Keith of Sovereign, SK. His education included time at Haddington School, Sovereign Elementary School and Rosetown High School. He married the love of his life, Donna on July 1, 1963. They were blessed with three children - Grant in 1965, Rosemarie in 1967 and Jennifer in 1975. He farmed closely with his Dad for over 20 years. He then became a long-distance trucker, travelling from Florida to Vancouver and Quebec to Los Angeles and so many points in between. He and Donna were well known for always having a pot of coffee ready for any visitors to the farm. Doug was also widely known for his light-hearted manner - ever ready to tease and joke with waiters and nurses or anyone else he met. He enjoyed reading and had an extensive library of books. A pool table in the basement was the source of many hours of family fun. He delighted in all the Christmas decorations that Donna added to their home for the Christmas season. He and Donna hosted several exchange students who became extended "daughters". A private family service was held on Saturday, February 24, 2018. The family invites everyone to a Celebration of Life for Doug at the Milden Alliance Church, Milden, SK on Saturday June 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Lunch will follow. In lieu of flowers and cards, a memorial donation may be made in Doug's name to Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
