Doyle LeRoy Tarwater, 70, of North Strabane Township, tragically passed away on March 6, 2020. Doyle was born on July 19, 1949 in Belleville, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University in 1970 at the age of 20. From there, Doyle worked on the railroad and traveled the world two times over. At the age of 27, Doyle attended medical school at the University of Minnesota, cutting his travels short but starting on a new adventure. Upon graduation, he landed an internship in Tucson, AZ, where in 1981 he met his future wife Anita; the beginning of a lifelong romance. Work opportunities brought him to Western PA where he eventually opened his own private practice. A passionate and adventurous soul, he was a pilot, a sailor and an avid rock and ice climber. Doyle was a lifelong learner with an astounding intellect and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. Sometimes a bit of a homebody, he loved to spend time with his family. He could often be found playing his guitar and listening to music, spending hours tending to his garden, and watching (and re-watching!) Michigan State basketball and football games. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Anita; and his six children, Caitlin Rose of New Haven, CT; Whitney (Kevin) Muska of Carnegie, PA; Connor (Alicia) of Pittsburgh, PA; Annie (Kevin) Kell of Elmhurst, IL; Abby; and Lily; as well as his two grandchildren, Adeline and Josephine; and his furry best friend, Ruby. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to National Park Foundation in recognition of his love and appreciation for the outdoors. Doyle will be remembered every day! A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 3 – 7 p.m. at PITTSBURGH CREMATION AND FUNERAL CARE, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546. A blessing service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Please view and sign the family's online guestbook at pittsburghcremation.com.

We are extremely sorry to hear ( rather late in the day) the sad news about Doyle .
We walked across the Himalayas and through Zanskar with him for a couple of weeks in 1980 - we’ll we walked and Doyle talked . Then by pure coincidence we found ourselves in adjoining hotels while Skiing at Beaver Creek about 16 years later . He sent us a part of the journal he was writing relating to his travels . A remarkable character - once met , never forgotten

I cannot put into words how shocked and sorry I am for your loss. Doyle and I had many adventures together and he always talked about how lucky he was to have such a amazing wife and family. He always bragged about his time with his grand babies. We rock and ice climbed together for many years and I will always remember how inspiring he was to me "A man without age". I will miss him. may he rest in peace.

We were in student government together in Belleville. I remember his fathers accident. I looked yesterday for his gardening posts. I was so blessed by his posts of family and his vibrant life. I am deeply saddened by your loss...his was a large life. I do believe that he got what he desired with his life-a family.

Anita & family, please accept my sincere sympathy. I only "met" Doyle four years ago, after my brother died in a rock climbing accident. They had climbed together in the past, and Doyle was one of the somewhat few people who agreed with me that Calvin had died doing what he loved.
I am hurting today, not just out of selfishness, but for his beloved wife and family. May they find the comfort of knowing that Doyle was loved and respected by many, and that his great love for his family was at the center of that love. May the Lord grant you peace in the coming days.
Most sincerely

Dear Anita,
We've never met, but I feel as if we did. I'm one of Doyle's second cousins and one of the things that always struck me about him was what a beautiful family he had and how proud he was of all of you I'm so sad to hear he is no longer with us. I can hardly believe it. His intellect, zaniness (sometimes), love of life and all things living will always be remembered and dearly missed. Peace to all of you and I hope you find comfort in the happy memories of his love for you.
