My heartfelt condolences to the entire family and friends on the passing of Prof. Edemariam T. I am honored to have worked with him when he chaired the committee for drafting the first code of Medical Ethics for Physicians practicing in Ethiopia'' published in 1988. Revised, the code is still in use. I feel that was one of his greatest contributions to practitioners in the country. God rest his soul in peace.

It was with deep sorrow that I read the passing of Professor Edemariam Tsega. I knew the late Professor and his dear wife (equally a prominent Physician) between 1978 to 1995). I was then assisting him and Madam on the preferred mmthod of data collection and the appropriate method of analysis.
Professor Edemariam was highly inquisitive; he will not take my recommendation unless I explain to him the methodoogy in a language that is easy to understand.. He was very meticulous in his literature review, precise in his objectives and concise in his analysis and conclusion. This can be easily verified by quality of his published works in reputed journals. It may also be noted that during his tenure at Addis Abeba University medical enrollment expanded considerably.
We will miss him a lot!

An excerpt from Prof. Elias S. Siraj's posting on the People-to-People (P2P) Forum: ....
When I went to medical school in Gondar, Professor Edemariam was at the peak of his professional career at Addis Ababa University Medical Faculty. He was a frequent visitor to Gondar as an external examiner, where we got to interact with him. Though physically not so big, his name, his stature, his reputation and what he has accomplished were big and extraordinary. He was simply a larger than life figure. He was one of the few people who can be credited to have played a role in the establishment of the medical education system that we have today in both the undergraduate and graduate medical education programs. He was an exemplary person in clinical practice, medical education and research. Among other things he has done extraordinary original research in the area of hepatitis in Ethiopia. In short, his name was associated with excellence in everything he did. He was a high caliber scholar in its true sense.

He will be missed... but his influence and legacy will live forever in all the students he educated and trained, as well as in the healthcare/education system he helped establish.

On this occasion, I would like to pass my sympathy and condolences to his family and to the Ethiopian medical community.

May his soul Rest In Peace.
