Elizabeth Sarah Anderson
(née Stocks)
January 5, 1925 - September 11, 2016
Elizabeth Sarah Anderson (née Stocks) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Novato Community Hospital in Novato, on September 11, 2016, in her 92nd year. Elizabeth was born on January 5, 1925, at the farm home in Proton Township, Grey County, Ontario. She attended Sunday school and a one-room public school. She then went to high school in Dundalk, Ontario, where she lived and helped her paternal grandparents. After high school, she moved to Toronto and worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in the office. She met Andy while skating in Toronto. They were married June 7, 1947, at Bethel United Church, Ontario. They first settled at Ajax, Ontario, while Andy finished his mining engineering studies at the University of Toronto. The mining life they chose led to many moves, trips and adventures including Quebec, Saskatchewan, Iowa, California and Michigan. Wherever she was, Elizabeth created a home for her family that included a growing number of grandchildren and great- grandchildren, all who have fond memories of visiting her and Andy and having visits from them. She was a constant presence in all her family's lives with her cards, handcrafted gifts and phone calls. Throughout her life, Elizabeth returned to Dundalk whenever she could to spend time with her parents, siblings and their families. She had a caring nature and concern for others and was actively engaged in her church, community and volunteer activities. They retired in Sonora, California, and later moved to Novato, California. Throughout her life, her family was foremost in her heart, her thoughts and her actions. She will be sorely missed. Elizabeth was predeceased by parents, George and Frances Stocks; her sisters, Margaret Hawkins, Agnes McEachnie, Irene Fraser, Jean Teeter; and brother, Bill Stocks. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Orville (Andy) Anderson; her children, Frances (Kando), Wayne (Pam), Brian (Glenda), Anne (Steve Champion); sister, Mary Edwards; and brother-in-law, Gerald Teeter; her nine grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren; and will be missed by many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service was held in Novato, California on September 19, 2016. She will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery October 1, 2016. The procession will leave Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre at 12:30 p.m., followed by a Come and Go luncheon at Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, SK) from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the Jamestown Methodist Church, P.O. Box 358, Jamestown, CA 95327.
