Marian and I are very saddened to hear of Eric's passing. I first served with Eric in the mid 1950s and our careers crossed paths several times.
He was always a gentleman and I always respected his opinion. We will miss him.

Words can not express my sorrow. It has taken until this time to come to terms with the passing of a dear and cherished friend. Only a few people called me "Davie" and I was honoured he was one of these special people. Rest easy, my friend, you have suffered long enough and now can spread the wings of freedom without any bounds.

Sandra, Barb and I were very sorry to hear of Eric"s passing and our thoughts and prayers are with you. You will proably not remember us but we will never forget the night you and Eric had dinner with us at our home. I was a private working for Eric at NDHQ and Barb was to serve a whole salmon as the entree. Barb placed the salmon from the oven onto a platter and as she was bringing it to the table the platter exploded into a thousand pieces. We had pork chops form the freezer that evening. A night neither Barb or I will ever forget.

Though we knew Eric for far too short a time, we counted him as a close friend and admired the passion he brought to everything – most especially you, the centre of his life. We will miss him. Both of you are in our hearts.

Sandra,
It's very difficult to believe that Eric is gone but as they say we will always have the memories.
On the day he passed away, as I was taking down the pop tent that he gave us for the grandkids' enjoyment, I said to Diane "I must call Eric".
I'm so sorry that I didn't get a chance to have at least one more conversation with him. I so enjoyed our talks and marvelled at his ability to recall things that had happened many years ago.
Eric had quite an impact upon me as a young soldier, trying to find my way in the newness and vastness of the military and indeed life in general. He truly was my mentor. Oh, he was tough, and there were times when I thought, "is he my friend, or is this big Cape Bretoner trying to destroy me"! There were numerous comments that ended in ..."dumb Newfie..!" I very quickly came to understand that Eric was in fact looking out for me and helping me find my way. As I look back upon those years, I see that he truly was a great leader.
Eric was also a man of principle who was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in no matter the consequences.
I hope Eric understood that his strength of character, his love of the land, caring for animals, and his love and loyalty to you have in some way helped shape those of us who had the priviledge to know and work with him.
Diane ane I are here to help you through this most difficult time.
Sincerely,
Nathan and Diane

Dear Sandra:
Eric's death is a sad even for me.
It was not unusual to send time reminiscing over the many adventures we had in early childhood and as teenagers. We spent many hours horse back riding through field and forest. He will be greatly missed. I will always remember him as and intelligent and loving friend.
I send you my warm sypmpathy.

Dear Sandra,
We were so very saddened to hear that the valiant struggle with Eric’s health problems was not rewarded with more years of happiness together for you both. Our hearts ache with you as you try to deal with such a loss and we want to help even if it is only to give you the comforting thoughts of friends who care about you. We wish you courage and peace and look forward to seeing you again in Victoria.
