EUGENE R. WHITE

GLENBROOK, Nev. - After living with cardiovascular disease for 42 years, Eugene R. White, 81, died June 20, 2012, joining our father in heaven, along with his parents; brothers, Billy, Dick White and Dick Withee; and eldest son, Eugene R. White Jr. Gene was born in 1931, in Bangor, to William White and Althea Morrison White. He graduated from Bangor High School where he met his future wife, Lorraine Canning. Gene served in the Army, where he achieved the rank of captain. After military service, he returned to the University of Maine obtaining degrees in physics and mathematics. Gene's family followed him around the country, as he worked on special assignments for General Electric throughout a 20-year period. He worked on projects in nuclear energy, solar fuel cells - developed for NASA's Gemini Project, and early computer technology. At the height of his career, Eugene White served as CEO and chairman of the board for Amdahl Corp., a Fortune 500 computer company in California. He was loved and respected by those who worked with him. Gene inspired others with his integrity, his sincerity, and his positive "can-do" spirit. Gene loved to travel and to celebrate life with family and friends. Always at his side, Lorraine was his best friend and dancing partner for 64 years. Gene's generosity and kindness was felt by all. He had a passion for helping young people to achieve their dreams. Gene and Lorraine raised three children, Gene Jr., Chris and Valinda. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores; daughters-in-law, Tamara and Lauri; and nine grandchildren, "Rob" Eugene R. III, Jason, Lindsay, Sean, Kyla, Brianne, Leah, Lucas and Eva. His family and friends feel blessed to have enjoyed Gene's passion for life throughout so many years. A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. July 7 at Our Lady of Tahoe, Zephyr Cove, Nev.
