Eva Lavone Cooper, 92, of Newton, formerly of Houston, Miss., passed away at 4 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson.  Funeral services celebrating Lavone’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pearson Chapel Nazarene Church, 512 County Road 24, Houston, MS 38851, with Brother Dale Hood officiating. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. until service time at the church. In loving memory of Lavone, memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, 208 S. Jackson St., Newton, IL 62448. Arrangements are under the care of Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton.  Lavone was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Chickasaw County, Miss., the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Rosella (Davis) Carter. She married Alfred Ely Cooper Aug. 22, 1942, and he preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1973.  Lavone was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Newton. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, games and being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lavone is survived by her children, James C. Cooper of Derma, Miss., Robert V. Cooper of Houlka, Miss., Inez Hooker of Houston, Miss., Eva R. Hood of Wheeler, Geneva L. Priest of Bruce, Miss., and Joy Warren of Crowder, Miss.; sister, Opal Tunnell of Houston, Miss.; 33 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews also survive. Lavone was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six children, two brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren.
