Florence Steele Obituary

Published by The Natick Bulletin & Tab from Mar. 25 to Apr. 1, 2012.
Florence Lorraine (Corrigan) Steele, 79, of Natick, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, March 22, 2012, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was the beloved wife of 52 years of Reginald F. Steele. Born in Tracadie Cross on Prince Edward Island, she was the last survivor of 10 children born to the late Charles and Annie (Smith) Corrigan. She was raised and educated on Prince Edward Island and came to the Boston area shortly after graduation. She married Reggie in 1959 and they settled in Brookline. The Steeles moved to Natick in 1970, and Florence set about creating a warm and loving home for her growing family. She loved to cook for and entertain her family and in recent years, had a penchant for spoiling her grandson, Robert, with his favorite pancakes. Her grandchildrens biggest fan, Florence enjoyed attending any of their events that she could. She was a lifelong hockey fan and loved to share stories of life in Canada with others. Predeceased by her son, Robert C. Steele, in 2000, and granddaughter, Sinead Lorraine Steele last year, she is survived by three sons, Reginald J. Steele and his wife, Susan, of Shrewsbury, Joseph F. Steele of Natick, and Derek C. Steele and his wife, Linda, of Framingham; six grandchildren, Victoria, Catherine, Leah, Robert, Logan, and Kailey Grace; her great-grandson, Aiden; daughter, Bonnie Manning Hanson of Blackstone; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Toomey of Shrewsbury; and many relatives and friends. Her funeral is Tuesday, March 27, at 9 a.m., at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common), Natick, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m., at Saint Patrick Church, 44 East Central St., Natick. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday, March 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made in Florences memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
