Frances Brooks
Frances Celia Brooks passed away peacefully at Oliver Lodge on January 18, 2018 at the age of 100. Mom was the fifth child born to Henry and Irene (Wilcocks) Pease on September 9, 1917 in Birtle, Manitoba. Mom was raised by her Aunty Frances and Uncle Lo Scrivens on a farm in the Rosetown area after her mother died of the Spanish Flu in January, 1919. She studied nursing at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert where she became a Registered Nurse. She met and married Scotty Brooks while in Prince Albert. Dad was in the service and stationed at a number of places during the war including one at Tofino, BC. During the 1950's Mom and Dad owned Murphy's Fish and Chips located in the 600 block of 20th St. W, Saskatoon. In 1955 we moved to Montgomery Place. Mom started nursing at the Saskatoon Sanatorium about that time and continued until her retirement in 1982. She was very proud of her nursing career. "Once a nurse always a nurse." Mom is survived by daughters Donna Ford (Garth), Carol Hertzke (Harold), and Fern Brooks- Upshaw; grandchildren, Catherine Ford Sirchich, Richard Ford, Brian Ford, Wendy Weigel, Glen Hertzke, Lee Upshaw, Amber Upshaw, Colin Brooks-Prescott; great- grandchildren, Michael Weigel, Shawn Weigel, Justin Duquette, Mercedez Duquette, Tian Sirchich, Kyle Hertzke and Alexis Upshaw. I worked with Frances for 20 years at the Sanatorium and when our mother (Jennie Kernohan) was admitted to Oliver Lodge she was seated at the same table as Frances. They had a very special relationship and spent many hours sitting in the sun visiting. Mom really missed her when she got moved to second floor. Frances was a very special person.

Donna, I remember your mother very well going all the way back to the time when your family owned the Fish and Chips shop on 20th Street and I was growing up a block away on Avenue F. As children, your brother and I used to play together and I spent a lot of time "hanging out" with him at your place. It's always difficult to lose some one but isn't it great to know that your mother lived such a long and fulfilling life.
