George D. Guilfoile

MASHPEE — George D. Guilfoile, 77, died peacefully at home Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Carole J. (Starchak) Guilfoile for 53 years.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., he was the son of the late George R. and Katherine (Jones) Guilfoile. Mr. Guilfoile was a 1948 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Conn., and a Korean War Marine Corps veteran. He was employed for 38 years at Northeast Utilities, retiring as a safety administrator in 1991.

He lived for much of his life with his family in Wolcott, Conn., where he was always an involved community member. George enjoyed sports, books, music, and spending time with family and friends. He was active at Christ the King Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Barbara Guilfoile and her husband, Bernard Lebow of Newton; a son, Richard Guilfoile and his wife, Mary Ann of Garden Grove, Calif.; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia Guilfoile of Chapel Hill, N.C. He was predeceased by his son David Guilfoile. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alex and Molly Lebow, Mia Guilfoile, and Russell and Carlie Guilfoile. In addition, he leaves a sister, Ann Bedell of Waterbury, Conn., and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Dec. 20, 2007, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Christ the King Church, The Commons, Mashpee. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m.
