PEABODY — George P. McCormick, 81, of Peabody, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, after a three year illness. He was the devoted husband of 57 years to Ruth A. (Crowley) McCormick.
He was born in Medford on April 20, 1928, the son of the late George D. and Loretta U. (Donovan) McCormick and was raised in Malden graduating from Malden Catholic in 1946.
He then entered the US Navy where he served during World War II prior to his discharge in 1948.
Returning from the service he entered Boston College and graduated from there in 1952. He had worked with the Campbell Soup Company for 39 years starting in sales and rising to account executive prior to his retirement in 1991. George and his wife had resided in South Peabody for over 50 years before moving to Brooksby Village four years ago. They also wintered for many years in North Fort Myers. George had been a manager and coach with the Peabody National Little League for many years.
Surviving him besides his wife are two sons and a daughter-in-law, George D. "Dennis" and his wife Anne of Stoughton and Michael J. McCormick of Melrose; a daughter, Dianne McCormick Pernokis of Plaistow, N.H.; his six cherished grandchildren, Maribeth Hopkins, Christina and Andrea Pernokis, Sarah, George and Danielle McCormick; his two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Hopkins; a sister, Rita Barry of Peabody; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A visitation will be held on Monday from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann's Church, Lynn Street, Peabody at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.

My sympathy is offered to family members Another old dear friend gone too soon. Fellow Eagles,George and I worked together at Bishop Fenwick where our sons played football together( while we cheered them on). Between laughs, we got a lot of manual labor done at the school. Dear Ruth & Family,
I wam very sorry to hear of George's passing. I worked with George at Campbell Soup Company, and always enjoyed spending time with George. He was a pleasue to work with and his customers loved him! Please accept our condolences. We will remember you all in our prayers!
