Dr. Gerhard HERZBERG

HERZBERG, Dr. Gerhard, P.C., C.C. Spectroscopist, Nobel Laureate (Chemistry, 1971)
Died peacefully at home, in his 95th year, on March 3, 1999, in Ottawa. Predeceased by his first wife, Luise, in 1971. Forever remembered by his second wife, Monika, his daughter Agnes, his son Paul and daughter-in-law Louise. Dr. Herzberg arrived in Saskatoon from Germany with his first wife in 1935 and considered that city his Canadian birthplace. Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, 1935-45, at the University of Chicago, 1945-48 and scientist at the National Research Council of Canada, 1948-95. Defended basic research in Canada and political dissidents around the world. The family wishes to give special thanks to his dedicated doctors and caregivers. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Saturday, March 6th, from 5 to 9 P.M. Private funeral and cremation.
