FALL RIVER, Mass. _ Gladys Newton (Ramsbottom) Dixon, 105, of Fall River, Mass., went to be with her Savior and Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009.
She was the wife of the late Lloyd H. Dixon, a Fall River insurance agent and realtor, who passed away in 1982. Lloyd was her high-school sweetheart and they were married on June 18, 1927.
Born in Fall River on Sept. 10, 1903, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Evaline (Smethurst) Ramsbottom.
She was a lifelong resident of Fall River. A celebration honoring Gladys on her 100th birthday was held Sept. 10, 2003, at the Adams House, where she was a resident since 1991.
She was a 1921 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, and a 1925 graduate of Simmons College in Boston. In addition to being a homemaker, she served as a Red Cross Gray Lady following World War II. She had been a member of the Fall River Woman's Club and the American Association of University Women.
A committed Christian, she was an active member of the Baptist Temple Church. She taught Sunday school and served on various committees. She will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren, who knew and cherished her.
Survivors include three sons, Lloyd H. Dixon Jr., a retired electronics engineer and his wife, Eleanor, of Naples, Fla., William B. Dixon, a retired chemistry professor and his wife, Diane, of Oneonta, and David G. Dixon, a retired Baptist pastor and his wife, Joyce, of Lognes, France; six grandchildren, Melanie Maxfield, Laura Parker, Stefanie Berg, Christina Dixon, Steven Dixon and Elizabeth Moreton; nine great-grandchildren, Julia and Nicholas Maxfield, Leif-Axel and Karolina Berg, Erwan and Gwenaelle Dixon, and Gaelle, Jonathan and Jeremy Moreton.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in the Baptist Temple Church, 700 North Eastern Ave., Fall River, Mass. Family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church. A reception to which friends are invited will be held at 3 p.m. at the Adams House. Burial will be private.
