ELK CREEK, W.Va. — Glen Edward Martin, 65, of Elk Creek, went to be with the Lord Friday, September 6, 2013, at his home, while surrounded by his family and friends.
Born December 9, 1947 at Logan, he was a son of the late Walter and Shirley Neal Martin.
Glen was a member of the Ragland Freewill Baptist Church where he was a bible teacher. He was also a retired coal miner having worked as an electrician and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Sheila Varney Martin; son, Christopher Shawn Martin of Rockford, Ill.; special uncle and aunt, Johnny and Nina Martin; his best friend and beloved pet, Becky; brothers and sister, David and Joyce Martin of Pineville, Matthew and Deone Martin of South Williamson, Ky., Mark and Rosie Martin of Covington, Ky., Ronald and Marty Martin of Kansas City, Mo., Paul and Rebecca Martin of Delbarton and Patty and Bill Smith of Chattaroy; mother-in-law, Ida Varney and the late John L. Varney; sisters-in-law, Polly and Ance Curry and Debbie and Charles Harrison; brother-in-law, Donnie and Roberta Varney, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 8, at Chafin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Will Compton and Elder Scott Slone officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memorial Gardens at Huddy, Ky.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Martin, Donnie Varney, Clayburn Varney, Tommy Canterbury, Bobby Adkins and Benny Sawyers.
